Autumn just got a little warmer…

The temperature might be dropping, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing… Because this is the time of year when hot tubs, wood-fired saunas, outdoor baths and evenings beside the fire really come into their own.

There’s something rather lovely about sinking into a hot tub on a chilly evening, warming up in a sauna after a long walk or sitting beside the roaring fire for just one more drink…

We have some gorgeous stays across Hay-on-Wye, Mid Wales and the Valley with all sorts of lovely extras that make an autumn break feel that little bit more special.

The Hay Festival Winter Weekend 2026 programme has landed and there’s plenty to get excited about!

Taking place 26th–29th November, Winter Weekend brings four days of books, ideas, conversations and festive cheer to Hay-on-Wye.

If you go down to the woods today… you’re sure of a FUNgi time…

There seems to be plenty popping up around here at the moment - I spotted all of these while out walking this week.

Now the question is… can anyone name any of them? Because I haven’t got a clue!

And if, like me, your mushroom knowledge could do with a little improvement, then Fungi Town might be the weekend for you.

Fungi Town is returning to Hay-on-Wye from 2nd–4th October.

Now in it’s third year, it’s grown into a three-day celebration of all things fungi, with talks, walks, workshops and events happening around Hay.

100 days until Christmas!

Have you ever thought about going away for Christmas?

Waking up somewhere beautiful on Christmas morning, wrapping up for a winter walk, coming back to a cosy house and settling in for an afternoon of good food, games and probably a little too much chocolate.

There’s a lovely exhibition, Table Delights by Felicity House, at The Table on Lion Street in Hay this week and I immediately recognised the room in the picture being used to advertise it!

It’s the kitchen at The Atelier, one of the lovely little places to stay listed with Where the Wye Wanders.

Art is a big part of The Atelier, and over time guests have left their own sketches in the guest book too - of the rooms, little details they’ve noticed and even a morning cup of coffee. Swipe to see a few of them here because they’re just too lovely not to share…

If you’re in Hay this week, Table Delights is definitely worth popping in to see.

New to our ‘Things to Do’ directory…

The new HUNTA Hay-on-Wye History Hunt, created by the lovely Sarah at Sarah Price Hiking, turns a wander around town into a treasure hunt, following clues and discovering a little more about Hay along the way.

It’s a fun way to explore the town whether you’re visiting for the first time, staying for a few days or even think you know Hay pretty well already!

Who says getaways have to wait for the weekend?

Sometimes a couple of nights away midweek is exactly what you need…

A slow morning, coffee in Hay, a wander around the bookshops, a long lunch… then back to your accommodation to switch off for the evening.

Fewer crowds, a slower pace and no waiting until Friday to escape.
