Founded in 1996, The Roy Fletcher Centre provides free digital skills training for adults and affordable office space.

We help people gain confidence online and support local organisations, making Shrewsbury a stronger, more connected community.

𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀!
This was how the Shrewsbury Chronicle reported the opening of the Roy Fletcher Centre in December 1996:
“𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲.”
Roy Fletcher had wanted to create a place in the centre of Shrewsbury where charities could have affordable premises, work alongside one another and keep more of their money for the people they supported.

Thirty years later, that idea is still very much alive.

Today, 12 charities and organisations are based at the Centre, alongside our meeting rooms and free digital skills support.
We’ll be sharing more photographs, newspaper cuttings and memories from the past 30 years as we celebrate our anniversary.

The Roy Fletcher Centre is celebrating 30 years of supporting Shrewsbury’s voluntary and caring community.

Since 1996, we have provided local charities with affordable, welcoming places from which they can help others. Over the years, thousands of people have visited our buildings to find advice, support, counselling, learning and a friendly welcome.

Now we would love to hear your part of the story.

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝘆 𝗙𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲: 𝗗𝗼𝗴 𝗔.𝗜.𝗗.

Did you know the Roy Fletcher Centre is currently home to 𝟭𝟮 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀?

One of them is Dog A.I.D. (Assistance In Disability), which helps people with disabilities train their own pet dogs to become qualified assistance dogs.

We are really pleased to be able to provide affordable office space for organisations like Dog A.I.D., helping them keep more of their resources focused on the people they support.

Tara from Dog A.I.D. told us: “We consider ourselves very fortunate to have found such a wonderful office space at such reasonable rates.”

A connection that goes back many years

We were delighted to see the transformation of the Perry Ward at Severn Hospice.

The Roy Fletcher Centre has a long connection with the hospice. Our founder, Roy Fletcher, played an important part in helping to establish what became Severn Hospice, and supporting the hospice has remained part of the Centre’s story over the years.

Last year, the Roy Fletcher Centre was also involved in fundraising efforts supporting the Perry Ward appeal, so it is wonderful to see what that support, alongside the generosity of so many local organisations and individuals, has helped make possible.

Congratulations to everyone involved in creating such an improved environment for patients and their families.

A proud moment for Shrewsbury 👏
