It takes a village to raise a child… 👇

I grew up near Grassington and went to two local schools, one of them being Grassington Primary. The other one 🤫… I’ll keep that story for another day!

Grassington has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.

I had my first drink in The Devonshire (now The Drovers), ran through the jakey to my friend’s house, played hide and seek in the streets, and rode up the main street of Grassington with my dad in his Land Rover.

I walked down Snake Pass (Sedber Lane) with my first boyfriend, and as a teenager I even worked in the museum.

I’ve had many firsts in Grassington… or, as many of you know it today, Darrowby.

Now as an adult, I’m still part of this community. If someone needs a helping hand, I’ll help if I can, whether I’m asked or simply notice someone needs it.

I’ve also been following the filming of All Creatures Great and Small since 2019. Like so many fans, I love the warmth, kindness and sense of community the programme portrays.

But there’s something rather special about knowing the real village behind Darrowby too.

This is what makes our Dales community so special…

A little bit of All Creatures Great and Small but in real life.

On Sunday, a very special Pet Service and blessing of the animals was held, bringing together creatures great and small for a beautiful thanksgiving for creation.

Dogs, sheep, a donkey and even a tortoise gathered to receive a blessing, each one a reminder of the wonderful animals that share our world.

For a moment, surrounded by the Dales countryside and so many different animals, it felt wonderfully reminiscent of All Creatures Great and Small. Not a scene from the programme, but certainly one that could have been written for it.

A gentle celebration of kindness, companionship and the joy animals bring into our lives.

Perhaps that is part of the magic of the Yorkshire Dales. Sometimes real life creates the most heartwarming scenes of all.

Do you want to cycle like the pros?

Yesterday, the pros raced through the Yorkshire Dales.

Today, you could ride the same roads at your own pace.
The Tour of Britain made its way through the stunning Dales yesterday, passing through the Pateley Bridge and Grassington area as part of a much longer stage covering many miles of Yorkshire countryside.

It was a fantastic reminder of what makes this such a brilliant destination for road cyclists. Quiet lanes, challenging climbs, beautiful valleys and those views that make you want to stop and take it all in.

At Moorside Farm Holiday Cottage, we welcome keen cyclists and have a secure cycle store for you to keep your bikes safely tucked away during your stay. We have suggested routes and great cafes to stop for a refuel.

Every August Bank Holiday since I can remember I've been attending Hebden Sports. I am not going to tell you my age! 🤣 The event started life as Hebden Feast in the early 19th century.

These days a lovely bunch of volunteers put up the tents, arrange the speakers and microphones, become stewards for the Fell race, look after all the games. My particular favourite game is Knockdown Ginger! I always remember this game being played with my mum. She gave me lots of motivation.

The children and adults take part in the races such as a potato relay, junior flat races, Egg and spoon race, back to back race, senior races and many more.

I started out as a junior racer and had a proud moment coming first one year winning 50p! I was thrilled. These days I avoid any races but my kids raced as children and I'm sure my grandchild will too ❤️

Sometimes we have celebs attend too. Chris Mason BBC political editor and soap stars such as Emmerdales Cain Di**le ( Jeff Hordley)and Zoe Henry from EastEnders and Coronation Street have been spotted enjoying the bank holiday fun.

I love that I pass this tradition to my family and have also had guests come and join us at the sports too.

Happy National Dog Day from Heavenly Hebden!

Today we’re celebrating one very special four legged star… Dora, who plays Trikiwoo in All Creatures Great and Small.

Here she is on set in Heavenly Hebden, getting ready for her scene in Series 7, with the wonderful Jill Clark from First Choice Animals helping Dora prepare for her moment in front of the cameras.

It’s always fascinating to see what goes on behind the scenes, and Dora certainly looks like she knows exactly what’s expected of her!
