Baseline surveys and site preparation underway in Heysham (near Morcombe) for Askam Civil Engineering's mobilisation works for the first stage of a solar project.

To safeguard an underground culvert running beneath the main access road, we were tasked with delivering pre and post-construction condition surveys.

We cleared back heavy overgrown vegetation at both ends of the culvert, opening up access for our supply partner, Clearflow Surveys, to carry out a comprehensive CCTV inspection. A follow-up survey at the end of the project will ensure the structure remains completely sound after heavy plant movements.

We're busy conducting utility clearance for AMB Rail ahead of a directional drilling project along the A11 near Snetterton.

Using our Leica DS4000 GPR unit, we map buried infrastructure along the planned drill path, providing accurate subsurface data so the drill team can execute the bore safely and without risk to existing services.

Work is underway to restore the historic stonework at John Smith’s Brewery in Tadcaster (est. 1758).

Triton Construction has been brought in to manage the repairs, which require building a substantial scaffold along the building's elevation. To ensure the scaffolding's load-bearing requirements don't compromise underground infrastructure, we were called in to carry out a comprehensive utility survey.

Using non-destructive scanning equipment, our team traced and mapped the below-ground services across the footprint. We are adding physical ground markings on-site and producing a topographical map with overlaid underground utilities and associated depths to guide safe scaffolding setup.

When a civils team opened up the pavement to install a new storm drain for Space Station’s refurbished building, they hit an unexpected snag: a dense nest of unmapped cables and pipes right in the path of the new drainage line.

Work had to pause until the area could be fully surveyed, and fast.

We joined the project that same evening to map all underground utility assets. Working under a strict Highways Opening Notice (8:00 pm – 6:00 am), every barrier and trench had to be clear and temporarily backfilled before morning traffic hit.

By 1:15 am, the survey data was captured. The client's drainage engineer now has the accurate underground picture needed to review installation levels and keep the project moving safely.

On a recent 33kV line project in Bury, we were brought in to record detailed site data ahead of a terminal pole replacement.

When the surrounding site was developed years ago, stone gabion baskets were installed around the structure to raise the ground level, making access tight and altering ground clearances.

Using highly accurate GNSS survey equipment, we mapped the precise ground contours, gabion structures, and pole positions. This data can be used to create full overhead line profile, sag, and clearance drawings to ensure the replacement pole meets exact safety standards

Precision mapping before the drill hits the ground.
We are on site near the A14, just outside Felixstowe, and are undertaking a comprehensive utility clearance survey on both sides of the dual carriageway.

Before any directional drilling can safely begin, accurate underground mapping is essential.

Directional drilling is a trenchless, low-impact method for installing utilities without disrupting major transport routes. However, its success relies entirely on knowing exactly what lies beneath the surface before work starts.

Our team is using ground-penetrating radar (GPR) and electromagnetic location equipment to trace, identify, and mark existing buried assets.

By clearing the path first, we ensure the upcoming directional drilling team can operate with total confidence, minimising the risk of utility strikes, protecting vital infrastructure, and preventing project delays.

When a line design changes, clear field marking is everything. On our current 10km refurbishment project, we took on the section from pole 46 to 96, a stretch that required route changes to the existing line to accommodate landowner and network requirements.

Every peg driven in represents a precise new pole location ready for the next phase. Good groundwork saves time, hassle, and guesswork down the line.

UTSS have been out in Lincolnshire working on the National Grid Electricity Distribution overhead line refurbishment scheme between Grantham and Skillington.

Before the heavy equipment rolls in, the path has to be mapped with precision. Proper prep and clear marking now mean a smooth process for the crew implementing the new line.

Mapping the 10km route is thoroughly underway.
