What’s happening in Whitby this August? ☀️⚓

Whitby Regatta draws to a close today, but if you’re visiting later this month, don’t worry — there’s still plenty happening in Whitby throughout August! 🎶🏴‍☠️🧛‍♂️

From folk music filling the streets to pirates taking over the seafront and Dracula returning to the Abbey, there are still brilliant events to look forward to.

🎶 Whitby Folk Week | 22–28 August

One of the biggest events in Whitby’s summer calendar returns for a week of traditional music, dancing, storytelling, workshops and live sessions.

Events take place at venues across the town, with musicians and performers creating the unmistakable Folk Week atmosphere throughout Whitby.

🏴‍☠️ Whitby Pirate Festival | 28–31 August

Expect plenty of swashbuckling fun over the August Bank Holiday weekend when the Whitby Pirate Festival returns.

Organised by the Whitby International Pirate Society, the festival celebrates all things pirate-related, with much of the action centred around Whitby Bandstand.

🎪 Great British Summer at Whitby Abbey

There’s plenty happening throughout the school holidays at Whitby Abbey.

Families can try circus skills, enjoy puppet performances, take on traditional fairground games and relax with ice cream while soaking up some of the best views in Whitby.

Children can also collect stamps in a special activity passport while exploring the historic Abbey grounds.

🧛‍♂️ Dracula returns to Whitby Abbey

The Abbey’s popular live Dracula performances continue throughout August, bringing Bram Stoker’s famous story to life at one of the places that helped inspire the novel.

Performances take place at 11am and 2pm on:

📅 29 August–1 September

So, while Whitby Regatta might be ending, August in Whitby certainly isn’t slowing down yet! ☀️🌊
