The first application window for the Sustainable Farming Incentive 2026 has now closed, with attention turning to Window 2.

It is expected to open on Tuesday 22 September, with at least £230 million available.

Farmers with certain existing environmental land management agreements due to end on or before 28 February 2027 will be able to start a new application when Window 2 opens, rather than waiting for their current agreement to finish.

With demand expected to be high, it is worth starting to look at the options and prepare ahead.

☀️Temporary support announced for farmers affected by the hot, dry weather☀️

Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has introduced temporary adjustments to a number of Environmental Land Management agreements, including SFI, Countryside Stewardship and Higher Level Stewardship, in response to the prolonged dry conditions.

The changes provide additional flexibility around areas including grazing, cutting land for fodder or bedding, creating firebreaks and establishing some seed mixes. Farmers using an adjustment will need to complete a temporary adjustment form and keep the relevant records.

As of 15 August, all counties in England qualified, although this will change as individual areas return to normal drought status.

The Peacock family have farmed at Leake Hall for 95 years and have now made the decision to relinquish the tenancy.

Brian will continue to trade in haylage, hay and straw along with selling bale wrap and twine from the new base at Leake Greens Farm, Borrowby.

This decision leaves a surplus of tractors, trailers, loader and arable equipment available for a reduction sale.

The sale will start on Friday 21 August as a online auction, concluding with a real-time live onsite auction on Tuesday 25 August at 11am.

Viewing is available on Friday 21 August, between 9am and 4pm and Saturday 22 August between 9am and 2pm and the morning of sale from 8am.
