🏡 Have you ever arrived at a holiday home, only to realise you need to go shopping before you can even relax?

Toothpaste, coffee, laundry detergent... suddenly, your holiday begins with a shopping list! 😊

At The Halo Collection by Hurmuses, we believe it should be different.

We love the idea of guests arriving, putting down their suitcases and discovering that someone has already thought about the little things.

From everyday essentials to those unexpected touches that make you smile, we believe genuine hospitality is about more than simply providing a beautiful place to stay.

And there's something rather special about enjoying the comforts of a home while discovering Athens at your own pace. 🇬🇷

✨ So what really makes a holiday home feel like a home away from home?

We've shared our thoughts in our latest blog, “More Than an Airbnb: Why Thoughtful Amenities Matter at The Halo Collection.”

What if Mount Lycabettus wasn't always the pine-covered landmark we see today?

Most visitors climb the hill for the view. Yet its most fascinating stories remain largely unknown.

Discover how decades of reforestation transformed the landscape, why an altar to Zeus Akraios once stood at the summit, how the hill helped build modern Athens, and the remarkable vision that almost turned Lycabettus into an elegant leisure retreat.

For guests staying at The Hill Apartment, these stories reveal a deeper connection to the neighbourhood beneath the mountain.

What happens when a guest’s experience matters more than how it looks to an audience?

Travel has become increasingly easy to document. Photographs, restaurant recommendations and carefully planned itineraries can all become part of the experience.

But what happens when we stop thinking about what a trip should look like and start considering how we actually want it to feel?

Our latest article explores a quieter approach to discovering Athens from The Hill in Lycabettus. It is about leaving room for spontaneity, returning to places you genuinely enjoy and recognising that meaningful travel does not always require a packed itinerary.

Sometimes experiencing a destination on your own terms can be as simple as lingering over breakfast, taking a local walk or deciding there is nowhere else you need to be.

Discover what an Athens travel experience can look like without an audience.

What do today's travellers expect from accommodation?

Increasingly, the answer is flexibility.

A dining table may become a planning hub. A living area may support remote work.
A terrace may offer a welcome pause between busy days in the city.

Our latest Halo Collection journal article explores how spaces evolve throughout a
stay and why adaptable environments are becoming an increasingly important part
of the travel experience.

As travel habits continue to change, guests often value homes that respond naturally to different needs, whether they are working, exploring, celebrating or simply taking time to rest.

✨ A proud moment for The Halo Collection.

Seeing The Hive, The Hill and The Silk House together in the pages of Maison & Décoration was rather special for Jeff and me. 🤍

The magazine called the feature “The Geometry of Hospitality” - a title I love because it captures what connects our three very different Athens homes.

The Hive in Kypseli.

The Hill near Lycabettus.

The Silk House in Metaxourgeio.

Three homes. Three neighbourhoods. Three different sides of Athens.

We never wanted to create the same home three times. Each property was designed to respond to its building, its history and the neighbourhood around it, while creating a place where our guests can genuinely feel at home.

It is also the idea behind the three rings of The Halo Collection: the guest, the home and the neighbourhood.

A big thank you to Maison & Décoration for featuring our story, and to Themis and Kostas Zouzoulas for their architectural and engineering work behind these homes. 🙏
Most days, I’m still looking at the practical things - the lighting, whether a chair is in the right place, or where a guest will put their suitcase.

So it is lovely, once in a while, to step back, be thankful and appreciate what we have built together. 🤍

What do you remember most after travelling?

For many visitors, Athens travel memories are not defined by landmarks alone. They are shaped by morning light, familiar cafés, neighbourhood walks and everyday moments that create a genuine connection to the city.

Metaxourgeio offers a different perspective on Athens. Historic silk factories, independent galleries, theatres and local cafés coexist alongside everyday residential life, creating a district rich in history, culture and authenticity.

Some of the most memorable parts of a stay are the details you discover slowly.

At Silk House, our boutique accommodation in Metaxourgeio, a restored neoclassical home becomes a setting for art, memory and quiet conversation. Greek-inspired artworks, black-and-white photographs, a carved chest, rotary telephones and a vintage Olivetti typewriter bring their own sense of history to the luxury rooms.

They are not museum pieces behind glass. They are part of the home’s character - small prompts to pause, look closer and imagine the stories they may hold.

After a day exploring Athens, return for a long, leisurely breakfast, a moment with a book, or an unhurried evening beneath the chandelier. Then let Metaxourgeio add its own creative spirit to your stay.

Athens in September offers warm days, cooler evenings and a slower rhythm after the August exodus.

At Silk House in Metaxourgeio, you are close to the Acropolis, Kerameikos and the city’s cultural life, yet still able to return to a peaceful, private home.

This is the month for early walks, late lunches, gallery visits, sea swims and evenings in neighbourhood cafés around Avdi Square.

Our new guest guide to Athens in September includes practical packing advice, travel tips, local favourites and easy day trips to Vouliagmeni or Aegina.

The laiki told me what to cook today. 💜

Figs are in season in Greece, and right now the stalls at our local Athens laiki are overflowing with them.

Soft. Fragrant. Ridiculously sweet.

Naturally, I bought too many. 😂

So I came home and made a warm, rustic fig crumble.

And this is exactly what I love about the laiki: you don’t necessarily arrive knowing what you’re going to cook.

You wander.
You look.
You taste.
You see what nature has decided is ready.

And somehow, the menu writes itself.

It’s also one of my favourite ways to experience Athens beyond the guidebooks. 🇬🇷

Shop where the locals shop.
Eat what’s in season.
Take it home.
Make something delicious.

Sometimes that’s the Athens memory you end up keeping. 💙

Save this for your next trip to Athens.
