GAIA MAYA is an oasis of beauty comprised of four querdas (close to 1 acre) of mountainside paradise with two dwellings, Abrazo de Colibri and Casa Rosa. ABRAZO DE COLIBRI (First dwelling):

nside and the outer patio/corridor. Two separate rooms offer the option of serving as one home, or can be divided into 2 separate living spaces, each with its own entrance for friends/family who might simultaneously like to share their daily life yet maintain their privacy. ROOM ONE:
The first room has a matrimonial size bed, suitable for up to 2 people, is a cozy nook with reading light, delicious for lounging, reading, resting, and meditating. Shutters and door open to breezes, streams of light, and beauty. There is a hanging closet for your wardrobe, and a hand-made lockable cupboard for clothing and valuables. ROOM TWO:
The second room comprises of a cozy bedroom or living/sitting area, an attractive work corner, and a fabulous hand-made sofa/bed. This room also provides a great space for personal time or for an intimate gathering with a few friends. Outside, a generous corridor patio-terrace has infinite possibilities, from fine dining under the starlit night to exercising, entertaining, swinging in the hammock and being with the rain. It remains shady in the heat of the day, and is always comfortable. The lawn and gardens are super user-friendly for play and gathering, for night-time around the fire, for holding ceremony, adaptable to your lifestyle. The two rooms open onto the covered terrace, leading past a semi-indoor shower and wash area with sink, storage, and shelving. Next door opens to the self-contained, equipped kitchen, with fridge, stove, ample and healthy cookware and utensils, and an eco water filter. An outdoor pila (washing area) can be accessed through the window of the kitchen for rinsing water. The kitchen is equipped with high stool chairs for eating at the wooden counter or for use in preparing food in a relaxed manner. Continuing outside and past the kitchen, the corridor winds around to the pila and toilet area. CASA ROSA (Second dwelling):
Casa Rosa is a Zen-inspired, self-contained home, with an equipped kitchen, filtered water, hot shower, storage area, and terrace, overlooking the Lago and volcanoes. Fresh, clean, and comfortable, this place is perfect for one or two people. Casa Rosa provides a balcony space, vegetable growing plots, great vistas and beautiful soundscapes Its gardens are evolving, adding to the many wonderful spots where one can bathe in the peace and beauty of Lago d’Atitlan. With simple luxury and charming decor, Casa Rosa is indoor/outdoor living at its best! Casa Rosa and Abrazo de Colibri at Gaia Maya are accessible by road on 4 cuerdas (close to an acre) of land that stretch up the mountain and afford awesome vistas from so many vantage points; rising up on the north is the sheer power of mountain beauty; to the south, the Lago and volcanoes reflect the shifting light shows from dawn to dusk. In the night, the city lights of San Pedro dance across the waters. The neighbour on the east is the magical energy of the Sacred Mayan Site, a mighty rock that is visible through the eastern windows. This is a holy site, mostly unused (by humans), but the occasional host for Mayan fire ceremonies. On the west, our neighbour is a tract of undeveloped land, as well as a couple of rustic homes visible or audible in the distance from time to time. There are several gardens with herbs, planted veggies, fruit trees and flowers, inviting the loving hands of any avid gardener, depending on the length of your stay. The tree population includes 2 fruit-bearing avocado trees, as well as banana, fig, jocote, cactus, and papaya trees; other trees grace the landscape with white, yellow or purple flowers depending on the time of year. For me, Gaia Maya become its own entity...a manifestation of the benevolent Mother Creator who nurtures the children of the earth. My life here has been dedicated to this unfolding creation and manifestation. It has been a space of gathering-- for joy, for music, for growth, and for living the wisdom and joy with which we have been endowed as human beings. HOW TO GET TO GAIA MAYA:
Head along the San Marcos to Tzunana route. After the big construction on the road, keep going. You will pass Raj's place on the mountain side (a green door with the words Chirij Quimbal above it) which is a wall of stone with a scalloped top. On your right the maya fence offers a great view of the lake. Keep on towards Tzunana. You will see big piles of dirt and stone that the muni has dumped there. You will pass CORAZON DEL LAGO on the right (lakeside), then a green rusting gate on the same side. The road then curves slightly and around the bend my property and gate will come into view on the left, the mountain side (a pink coloured casa overlooking the vista.) Behind the piles of dirt and side by side are two stone staircases, first a narrow one (neighbour’s, not mine) and then mine. There is a sign, Gaia Maya. Do you have a phone?
