💧 Velocity → Flow Rate Calculation

Understanding the relationship between fluid velocity and flow rate is essential in pipe sizing, HVAC, chilled-water systems, plumbing, and process engineering.

📐 Main Formula:
Q = V × A
Where:
• Q = Flow rate (m³/s)
• V = Average fluid velocity (m/s)
• A = Pipe cross-sectional area (m²)
🔹 For a circular pipe:
A = πD² / 4
Therefore:
Q = V × (πD² / 4)
📊 Example:
Velocity, V = 1.234 m/s
Pipe diameter, D = 0.200 m
A = π(0.200)² / 4 = 0.03142 m²
Q = 1.234 × 0.03142 = 0.03875 m³/s
➡️ Flow Rate = 38.75 L/s
💡 Key Point: Higher velocity or a larger pipe area increases the flow rate. Always use consistent units when calculating.
