Kia orāna! 🌺 It’s Cook Islands Māori Language Week.

This year’s theme, “Me kite koe i te tuatua i to'ou reo tupuna, e turanga rangatira tena nō'ou no te uki amuri atu” (With our language as our foundation, we will embrace the future) this celebrates the important connection between language, culture, identity and future generations.

Across TPS, we’re fortunate to have a diverse team representing many cultures, languages and communities. Celebrating and learning from one another helps strengthen our connections, builds a greater sense of belonging and reflects the diversity of the communities we work alongside every day.

This week, we encourage everyone to learn a word, try a greeting and join us in celebrating te reo Māori Kūki 'Āirani and the rich culture of the Cook Islands.

Meitaki ma'ata! 💙

🏆 TPS wins the Careerforce Workforce Development Excellence Award!

We build people, not just cleaning schedules. That's why TPS NZ just won the Careerforce Workforce Development Excellence Award at the 2026 BSCNZ CleanSweep Awards. There to accept the award for TPS were Kenny Harris (CEO), Kerry Elliot (Head of People and Culture), Lilly Toma (People, Culture and Training Facilitator).

This category, sponsored by Careerforce and introduced for the first time this year, celebrates organisations that understand skilled, supported people are the foundation of great service, and that workforce development is an ongoing commitment, not a one-off activity.

We've seen quarterly turnover drop from 26% to as low as 9% well below the industry benchmark - real proof that investment in people translates to people staying.

A stronger safety culture, not just a policy - with an increase in incident and near-miss reporting, our people are taking an active role in keeping each other and our sites safe.

Real career progression, with internal promotions across our cleaning division seeing people move into supervisory, management and administration roles - training that turns into real opportunity, not just a certificate.

Kerry Elliot, our Head of People and Culture, says the award is a meaningful acknowledgement of TPS's people-first approach:

"Every day, we watch our people grow, and that's what this recognition is really about. At TPS, People First isn't just a value on a wall, it's how we build confidence, capability and real career pathways for our people. We believe strongly in workforce development, and a supported team delivers the consistent, high-quality service our clients count on, that's a win for everyone."

From our cleaners to our supervisors, team leaders and managers - this one's for every TPS person who's grown with us. 🏆

❄️ Winter Maintenance Reminder: Small checks today can prevent big problems tomorrow.

Winter weather can take a toll on commercial buildings, and it's often the little issues that become costly if left unchecked.

As the colder, wetter months settle in, now is a good time to stay ahead with preventative maintenance.

Here are a few areas worth checking:
✔️ Roofs and gutters are clear of debris to prevent water damage.
✔️ External walkways and entrances are safe and free from slip hazards.
✔️ Building lighting is working correctly as daylight hours shorten.
✔️ Heating and ventilation systems are operating efficiently.
✔️ Exterior windows and façades are maintained to protect your building's presentation.
✔️ High-traffic areas are monitored for increased wear caused by wet weather.

A proactive maintenance approach helps extend the life of your assets, minimise disruption, and create safer, more comfortable environments for everyone using your facilities.

Need a hand getting your property winter-ready? Get in touch with the TPS team we'd love to chat about how we can help keep your facilities safe, compliant, and looking their best this winter.

This week our National Cleaning Operations Manager, Colin invited the team to experience something a little different, a lunchtime tasting featuring King Black Trumpet mushrooms from his own business, Wainui Valley Mushrooms.

Prepared fresh in garlic butter and served with bread, the mushrooms were a hit with the team. After tasting them, it's easy to see why they're becoming a favourite among Auckland chefs.

It's always great seeing our people share their interests and passions outside of work, and even better when everyone gets to enjoy the end result.

Thanks for lunch, Colin! 🍄

TPS recently joined students at Avondale College's Trades Day to share insights into the diverse range of trades and services we deliver across New Zealand.

Representing TPS were Kerry Elliot (Head of People & Culture), Caspian Tait (People, Culture and Training Facilitator), Josh Clark (Electrical Supervisor), and Eddie Waite (Carpenter), who shared their experiences of their trades and the career pathways available across our business, from electrical and carpentry to maintenance and facilities services.

Students had the opportunity to ask questions, learn about work experience opportunities, and get involved in hands-on activities, giving them a practical glimpse into life in the trades.

A big thank you to Avondale College for hosting a great event and helping inspire the next generation of trade professionals.
