If your teen spends a lot of time scrolling, watching reels or TikTok, it might be worth sharing these graphics with them.

It’s quite horrifying - for us as well (sometimes I’m guilty of it too!).

There’s a guy on Instagram called Tanner Clark who is a motivational and mindset speaker for teens.

He’s well worth a follow - I’ll pop his link in the comments.

I think I’ve found my spirit animal! The kea, New Zealand’s own mountain parrot. 🦜

They’re curious, resilient, a bit chaotic, intelligent, and have a cheeky habit of playing with things just to see what happens.

Honestly… same. 😅

Kea survive in some of the harshest conditions in New Zealand, but they still know how to have fun and find interest and mischief in the world.

Life hasn’t exactly been gentle lately, but I’m still the one stepping outside to take photos of sunsets, laughing at ridiculous things, planning more adventures, taking walks on the beach, and squeezing every bit out of fun out of ordinary days.

Maybe that’s why I love this bird so much.
Not just because it survives hardship - but because hardship never seems to steal its spirit.

I love my morning walks to the bus stop because I get to see this gorgeous larger-than-life kea on my way, and it inspires me to keep smiling - and maybe go and find some mischief🙂

HELP A MUM OUT!

A friend of mine and fellow mum has written a book which I’m sure will prove very useful for our teens (I haven’t read it yet, but as soon as it’s out I will be!)

Right now she needs help choosing a design for the cover - if you have a moment, it would be great if you could help I choose 🙂

Yesterday I read something on Instagram that had me in tears, in the best possible way.

I was watching Ben West describe the loss of his brother 8 years ago, and the incredible website he has created to not only honour his brother, but to help others.

I watched his tears when he spoke of his brother, his loss, and the void and hopelessness that he left.

I saw him choke up when he talked about his creation, Reasons To Stay - a website that allows people to write a letter to a stranger in need, and for those in need to receive kind words aimed at giving them reasons to live.

I saw him cry more tears - this time in disbelief, that tens of thousands of people had written letters …. And hundreds of thousands had received them.

And lastly, I watched him struggle to get the words out when he realized his website, in its first week, had already saved a life. And then another……

You never know who might write a letter that saves a life ….. or whose life might saved because of it. ❤️

Parents, let’s talk about alcohol!

Parents, this is a message you need to hear. As a law enforcement officer, I’ve seen firsthand how alcohol plays a role in so many dangerous and heartbreaking situations—particularly in cases of sexual battery. Let’s talk about how you can help your kids navigate these risks.

- For Parents of Girls:

- Discuss the Risks: Teach your daughter about the dangers of being in environments where alcohol is present, such as parties, dates, and even in relationships. Alcohol can cloud judgment and lead to situations that spiral out of control.

- Set Strong Boundaries: Help her understand the importance of setting firm, clear, and non-negotiable boundaries—think cement walls with razor wire boundaries. These boundaries should prioritize her safety and well-being.

- Consent Matters: Have meaningful conversations about consent, what it looks like, and how alcohol can impair the ability to give or get consent.

- Watch Out for Friends: Encourage her to look out for her friends and step in to protect them if they’re in a risky situation because of alcohol.

- Role-Play Scenarios: Tabletop different situations your daughter might face involving alcohol. Brainstorm options and strategies for getting out of trouble or staying safe.

- For Parents of Boys:

- Talk About Respect: Teach your son the importance of respecting himself and others, especially when alcohol is involved. Alcohol doesn’t excuse bad behavior.

- Understand Consent: Help him understand that consent must be clear, enthusiastic, and can change minute to minute. Alcohol complicates this, but it doesn’t negate the need for respect and awareness and consent.

- Life-Altering Consequences: Be honest about the potential consequences of being accused of sexual assault or battery. Even if alcohol is involved, it doesn’t erase the responsibility or the legal, social, and emotional fallout.

- Protect Their Friends: Encourage your son to watch out for friends who are drinking and might make dangerous or regrettable choices. Being a good friend could prevent a lifetime of regret.

- Why This Matters -
Alcohol impairs judgment, reduces inhibitions, and makes bad situations even worse. Talking about these realities with your teens—boys and girls—could save their lives, their futures, or someone else’s.

Start the conversation now. Don’t wait for something to happen.
Alcohol is a big deal—let’s treat it like one.
