Before there was Queenstown, there was Tāhuna. 🌿

And before the TSS Earnslaw crossed these waters carrying visitors, Whakatipu-Wai-Māori (Lake Wakatipu) was part of a much older story.

For generations, Kāi Tahu travelled these waters and surrounding trails, with settlements around the lake and routes leading towards the pounamu of the headwaters. The area we now know as Queenstown was once home to the kāika of Tāhuna, meaning “sandy shore.” 🌊

Today, you can stand on the same lakefront and watch the TSS Earnslaw, one of Queenstown’s most iconic sights, making its way across the water.

A pretty incredible reminder that Queenstown’s story started long before tourism.

And there’s a lot more to this place than meets the eye. 🤍

At Tāhuna Hideaway, we love supporting initiatives that strengthen our local community. 💚

We're proud to have contributed towards Māori Language Week at Wakatipu High School this September. It's a fantastic kaupapa celebrating te reo Māori, creating meaningful opportunities for rangatahi, and bringing our community together.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in making this annual initiative happen. We can't wait to see the impact it has on the students and the wider Whakatipu community.

✨ Our Top 3 Performers So Far This Year

🥉 Lakes Edge Villa

What do these three have in common? Not as much as you might think. 👀

They’re all relatively close to town, but each property offers something quite different.

Our #1 performer, Bluewater Views, is actually closer to Frankton than central Queenstown. Has a hot tub and is a three bedroom modern unit.

Where as our #2 is right on the tip of town, with great views, 3 bedroom and has the winning location for a hot tub.

And our #3 performer, Lakes Edge Villa, doesn’t even have a hot tub, but is 4 bedrooms with a Sauna 🔥

It’s a great reminder that there’s no single formula for a high-performing holiday home.

Location matters. Views matter. Amenities matter. But so do the little things that come together to create an amazing guest experience.

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, and that’s what makes property performance so interesting. 🏡✨

Last September, the Queenstown region welcomed around 583,600 visitor days, that’s a LOT of people choosing Queenstown for the start of spring. 🏔️✈️
