Did you know the world’s first automated frozen margarita machine was invented right here in DFW?

Back in 1971, 25-year-old local restaurateur Mariano Martinez opened Mariano’s Mexican Cuisine in Dallas. It was an overnight hit, but there was a massive problem: his bartenders couldn't blend the drinks fast enough to keep up with the thirsty crowds. Blenders were burning out, customers were complaining about wait times, and his staff was ready to quit.

The breakthrough moment? A stressed-out, sleep-deprived morning run to a Dallas 7-Eleven.

Mariano watched a kid buying a Slurpee and had a total lightbulb moment. 💡 He bought a used soft-serve ice cream machine, tinkered with his dad's secret margarita recipe (adding just enough extra sugar so the alcohol would slush instead of freezing rock solid), and changed restaurant history forever.

Because he never patented it, the invention spread across the globe, single-handedly launching modern Tex-Mex patio culture. Today, his original Dallas machine literally sits on display at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C. as a historic piece of American innovation!
