Black-owned businesses do more than drive the economy—they strengthen communities.
A recent report from Kindred Futures found that Black-owned neighborhood businesses are essential community assets. They create jobs, preserve culture, provide gathering spaces, and contribute to stronger, healthier neighborhoods. Research even shows that neighborhoods with more Black-owned small businesses experience better outcomes for children and families.
Yet these businesses continue to face barriers, from limited access to capital to rising commercial rents that threaten their long-term presence. Supporting local businesses isn’t just about shopping small—it’s about investing in the future of our neighborhoods.
At SAGE, we believe thriving local businesses are the foundation of a thriving Sweet Auburn. Every purchase, partnership, and opportunity to support entrepreneurs helps preserve the history, culture, and economic vitality of our community.
