Feel good news!

With support through a MAR Foundation grant, another household in rural Maine is back on their feet!

A community member contacted RCAM - Rural Community Action Ministry requesting help with their utility bill and rent due to a recent layoff. Since receiving budget counseling and other related services, a better paying job was secured and they’ve completed a first-time Homebuyer’s Course and are building their savings for a down payment on a home! Way to go!

As about 40 Maine Association of REALTORS head to Washington D.C. later this week, learn more about one housing priority we will be advocating for which could help address housing availability and affordability for many Americans.

Current capital gains rules discourage homeowners from selling, shrinking housing supply. Updating the tax exclusion could boost inventory and improve affordability.

“As expected, we’re seeing a spring surge of homes for sale across Maine,” says Judy Oberg, 2026 President of the Maine Association of REALTORS® and Associate Broker at Oberg Insurance & Real Estate Agency in Bridgton. “For-sale inventory in May jumped 26% from April, with more than 1,000 additional homes listed and available—approaching 5,000 on the market."

Grant recipients include four Habitat for Humanity offices, to support home repairs and help cover construction costs for the Compass Point neighborhood project in Rockland.
