Some homeowners are getting tired of open floor plans. Are you still on board with this trend, or are you looking for ways to close off parts of your living area?
Over the past decade, the open floor plan has dominated the vast majority of interior design. The tide, however, is turning—we're putting up walls again. Here's what several interior designs say about this switch.

What are the options in the greater Austin area for those who are interested in changing to a different and/or simpler lifestyle? Of course, there’s always a single family home, and whether your looking for something smaller or larger, easier to maintain, with or without amenities, we can find it here in Austin. Active 55+ lifestyle communities are another alternative. They are not much different than any other residential community aside from their age requirements and having a retirement friendly, low-maintenance lifestyle in mind.
If you are not looking to buy, renting in an active adult apartment building with everything you need to fulfill an an active, healthy, low maintenance and social lifestyle, is also within your reach. Age-qualified housing is a more predictable environment than an all-age rental complex and is appealing because the clientele has reached a level of maturity. Buildings provide renters with a lock and leave lifestyle and tend to be less expensive than Independent living communities as food and additional services are not provided and not included in the rent.
Speaking of Independent Living, the Austin area abounds in choices. Independent Living is designed exclusively for older adults. Housing may vary from apartment style living to free-standing homes. In general these communities provide meals, activities, lots of opportunities to socialize, and basic housekeeping and laundry services. Typically a monthly rental fee is paid, which can vary widely based on amenities provided. Medical and nursing services are not included.
Lastly, is the Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) or Life Plan communities. A CCRC is a long-care option option for older people who want to stay in the same place through different phases of the aging process. A resident can start out living independently in an apartment and later transition to assisted living to get more help with daily activities or to skilled nursing and/or memory care to receive more medical care , all while remaining in the same community. A CCRC can be costly and payment plans differ at each community. A large entrance fee is usually required along with a monthly rental fee.Patti has always given back to the community and is an involved member of the Temple Beth Shalom, the National Council of Jewish Women, the Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce, and is a Board member at AGE of Central Texas.
