Every day on the Wildwood Boardwalk, the National Anthem plays. Today nearly 100 soccer games on the beach stopped playing. A thousand+ players, parents, coaches, and spectators stand still in place. Hats come off. Everyone looks for a flag.

This weekend, there are roughly 10,000 people in WW and millions more visiting America this summer for the World Cup. Many are experiencing our country for the first time and realizing that so much of what they’ve heard about America isn’t the whole story.
They see a country filled with good people, pride, opportunity, and freedom. Something that doesn’t sell ad space on the news.
The Spangled Banner isn’t just a song. It represents how we got here, where we are, and where we’re going.

Free to agree.
Free to disagree.
Free to speak our minds.
But most importantly Free to chase our dreams if you want to.

No matter our differences, we’re all blessed with that same gift:

What a run.
A fitting end to the final game Joey played for Upper Township Force. After a hard-fought 1-1 draw, they went to penalties. On the very last shot he would ever face in a Force uniform, he came up with the save to win. As proud as I am of the goalkeeper he has become (even though I begged him not to be a goalie) I’m even prouder of the person he is. Before celebrating with his teammates, he went over to console the opposing keeper. That says more about his character than any save ever could.
