Some of the wildflowers are finding their way to the sun this year, with great names like Five-Spot, Western Wallflower, Woodland Forget-Me-Not, and yellow flower whose name I didn’t get. I had to throw in a tribute to my irises, which were first planted in my garden at our old house, frequently given as teachers gifts, then transplanted to pots in a frenzy on a hot day in early March before our closing, then nurseried in said pots while we rented, and then planted here. They have been split many more times and are thriving, despite the soil here that seems to kill over half of everything I plant. Last photo is a magnolia that is throwing some sort of tantrum, in that every part of it that was delivered and growing when it arrived from the nursery is dead, and it’s growing like mad down at the ground. Guess I’ll just let it go and see what it has in mind for its tenure here.

This unique and well-designed garden unit immediately felt like home to my buyers, a sunny and spacious oasis on a quiet, tree-lined street that was much closer to what they relocated to Chicago for. For about the same as their rent in West Loop, this place is all theirs and ready for them to bring some plans to life! With rents skyrocketing in very recent years, I’ve been thinking a lot about ways to make ownership a reality for more people, despite sale prices climbing as well. Jumping the gun a bit here because we ran out of wood panels and I’m not sure when we will get to finish the rest of the wall. Normally we close up for the tools before dinner but I made us break the rules tonight because I didn’t have it in me to have the painting shoved behind a couch and sorta blocking the hallway for one more day. And I’m proud of myself for the idea to put these rechargeable lights facing UP on the frame so that they can be on while I’m in bed and won’t be burning my eyeballs. Another step in my ongoing war against all of the non-‘uplighting’ lights in the house. #. Also, the song choice is a bit of a jump because Glen Hansard was in the Frames, so…you get what I mean.
