More housing and more investment could be coming to Catasauqua.

Borough Council has approved the master plan for the redevelopment of the former Crane Iron Works property along the Lehigh River.

VM Development Group is proposing a $75 million redevelopment of the approximately 12.5-acre site. The first phase is expected to include 60 apartments, 14 townhomes and the redevelopment of the existing depot building into mixed-use space.

Projects like this are important for communities like Catasauqua. They bring unused properties back to life, add much-needed housing and can help generate additional economic activity for the surrounding neighborhood.

For those of us involved in property management and rental housing, it’s another development worth keeping an eye on as the Lehigh Valley continues to grow.

BIG news for the Lehigh Valley — and potentially big news for our local rental housing market.

Chobani has announced plans to invest approximately $1.2 BILLION in a new manufacturing operation in North Whitehall Township, creating more than 900 jobs.

That kind of investment has a ripple effect.

More jobs bring more people to the area. More people mean greater demand for housing. And that can create opportunities — and challenges — for landlords, investors and property owners throughout the Lehigh Valley.

With a 1.5-million-square-foot facility planned and more than 900 jobs expected, this is another significant vote of confidence in the future of our region.

The July housing numbers are in for the Lehigh Valley, and they continue to show a very competitive housing market.

The median sales price in Lehigh and Northampton counties reached **$389,500**, while available inventory remains at just **1.6 months**.

Why does this matter from a property management perspective?

With home prices remaining high and inventory still tight, renting continues to be an important part of our local housing market.
