Grocery prices keep going up but the quality keeps going down.

I got tired of paying more for food I didn’t even like and wasn’t making me feel good. So I went looking for a way to buy straight from the farms, and that’s how I found Field to Family

This week’s box had meat, veggies, and dairy plus basil (smells so good!!). I’m most excited about the peach pie - that counts as dinner, right?

I shop local every chance I get. My dollar is my vote, and I’d rather that money stay close by with the people who make this place feel like home. And I know that my money is helping them raise their families.

Divorced, then married again. Kids moving out, parents moving in. Walking away from a career for something that scared me. Leaving the only home state I’d ever known.

None of that was failure. It was just what change looks like when you are paying attention.

If you’ve ever felt that pull between the life you’re living and the life you want, you may be one decision away from the way you want your life to actually feel.

Maybe the life you pictured did not include a parent moving into your spare room. Maybe it did not include researching walk-in showers and grab bars instead of planning your next getaway. That gap between what you expected and what you are actually living is real, and you are allowed to feel it.

But this next season does not have to be something that just happens to you. You can still be the one who decides how your home works, how your days feel, and what you protect for yourself inside all of it.

Affordable is not an easy thing to find and when you do, ask these questions because the price on the listing is only one piece of the decision.

Location. Can you picture yourself happy here in five years, not just today.

Overall cost. The mortgage is one number. Utilities, upkeep, and the little surprises every house has are another.

Condition. The roof, the furnace, the water heater. What is holding steady and what is on borrowed time.

Move-in ready. What will it actually cost to make this place feel like yours before you unpack a single box.

Repairs and future projects. Can you keep up with what this house is going to ask of you down the road.

A house can check every box on paper and still be the wrong move if you don’t know the answer to these questions.

I paid off my car a year early. Four years of payments and I am officially done.

To celebrate, I did something I have never done before. I took it to Eric at Premier Auto Detailing here in Cedar Rapids for my first ever professional detail. It came back looking almost as good as the day I bought it.

Paying something off early is not luck. It is a decision you make every single month, even the months it is not exciting. If you are working toward something right now, this is your sign to keep going.
