There is a bakery in Cedar Rapids that you’ve never been to.

The Barkery in Cedar Rapids’ Czech Village makes all natural treats and birthday cakes. from scratch, for your dogs and cats. Plus they offer craft beer for dogs.

Stephanie started this because she was tired of wondering what was actually in the treats she was giving her own dogs. So she started making them herself. Out of her home. With whole foods, organic ingredients, and zero shortcuts.

Cedar Rapids took notice. The community voted The Barkery number one in Pet Food and Pet Shops. Not just over other small shops. Over Petco. Over PetSmart.

That is what shopping local actually does. It keeps a real person in business. Someone who started something because she cared, not because she saw a market opportunity.

If you have a dog or cat birthday coming up, or you need a gift for the pet lover in your life who has everything — go find The Barkery. They are at 76 16th Ave SW in Czech Village, right in the heart of Cedar Rapids.

A kitchen that makes you actually want to do the dishes.

I know. I didn’t believe it either until I stood at this sink.

The soft gold faucet. The pendant light. The subway tile. The window that looks out to the greenest backyard while the water runs. Someone thought about every single detail in this kitchen and it shows.

This is the kind of kitchen that changes your relationship with cooking. And apparently with chores.

Four beds, two baths, 1,960 square feet of someone’s best work.

This is the one you’ll be sending to all your friends.

You know the one. The house you screenshot and text without even finishing the tour. The one you send to your mom, even though she never thinks any of them are good enough for you.

This one, she’ll love.

This 1950 home in Marion was not just renovated. It was completely reimagined. Elegant trim work. Custom built-ins. A fireplace that makes you want to cancel all your plans. Ceiling details you don’t expect to find at this price point. A fully finished lower level with a bedroom, egress window, and flex space that will make you think of seven different uses before you even walk back upstairs.

Four bedrooms. Two baths. 1,960 square feet of someone’s absolute best work.

This is the house you keep coming back to. The one that makes you say “what if I can buy a home??”

Comment LOVE and I’ll send you the details.

This sculpture sits at the center of . On one side, you have the square. Come through the other side and you see this — a splash pad and picnic loop in the summer, an ice skating loop and the peace tree all lit up in the winter.

Same space. Two completely different reasons to show up.

If you are thinking about relocating to the Cedar Rapids area, I will show you the real Marion. Not the listing. The life.

Comment MARION and I will send you everything you need to know about this community.

I know this is hard to believe, but I didn’t always love where I live.

I grew up in Pennsylvania. I spent most of my adult life there too. I was from there, sure. But I was never really of it. I showed up, I did the work, I came home. I wasn’t planted.

When my husband said I was midwestern at heart, I thought he was just being sweet. Then we moved to Marion, Iowa.

And I got it.

For the first time in my life, I live in a place I chose. A place I got involved in. A place where I actually belong. The Chamber. The Civil Rights Commission. The neighbors I know by name. The town I genuinely hype to anyone who will listen.

If you’ve ever felt like you were living somewhere by default instead of by choice, I want you to know that feeling can change. It changed for me at 50.

And if you’re thinking about making that kind of move, I might be the right person to talk to. I’ve done it. I lived it. And I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Drop a comment or send me a message. I’ll be straight with you about what the move actually looks like.

I just found the new home in Marion that you have been looking for.

And here is the thing about new construction that nobody talks about enough — you skip the bidding war.

No competing with four other buyers. No waiving inspections to stay in the game. No paying over asking just to have a shot.

You pick your finishes. You know the history of the house because there is no history yet. Everything works because nothing has had time to break.

This one is in Boulder Ridge, right here in Marion — and if you know Marion at all, you know how close this puts you to Uptown. Restaurants, events, the energy of this city that keeps growing. You are not tucked away from it. You are minutes from it.

Skogman Homes built this one, which means the quality is there.

If you have been losing ground in this market and wondering if there is another way — this is it.

Comment INFO and I will get you everything you need.

The search for the best pizza in Cedar Rapids continues! Tonight we’re picking Roscoe’s in Northwest Cedar Rapids. We couldn’t decide which style so we got one of each.

If a home in Cedar Rapids is move-in ready and priced right, it is not sitting around waiting for you.

We are seeing fewer days on market, multiple offers, and buyers waiving inspections. That is the reality right now for well-priced, move-in ready homes in this market.

So what do you do if you don’t want to compete?

You build.

Building a home gives you the choice - finishes you want, the layout you want, and in most cases, real builder incentives that buyers in a bidding war never get access to.

No competing offers. No waived inspections. No wondering if you lost again.

If building has crossed your mind and you want to know what the numbers actually look like right now, comment BUILD and let’s talk.
