Shea McGee just shared her fall approach and honestly, you don’t need a full room refresh. Just five small swaps and it starts to feel like fall.
Textiles first. Swap your lightweight linens for something with a little more weight, velvet or a chunky knit throw pillow does most of the work. Homesense and HomeGoods are goldmines for this exact thing, you don’t need designer prices to get that warm, layered look.
Reset your surfaces. Pack away the light summer pieces and bring in texture instead. Wood, woven baskets, a little ceramic, whatever you already have works. It should feel collected over time, not perfectly matched.
Follow the light. Fall is all about candles and lower, warmer light. Even one or two aged looking candleholders (HomeGoods always has options) instantly make a room feel cozier.
Don’t forget the bedroom. A quilt, a mix of patterned and velvet or embroidered pillows, and a throw at the end of the bed. That’s really it. Instant cozy, and it’s an easy weekend project.
Dress the table, even on a random Tuesday. Bone china if you have it, but a plaid tablecloth or some warm copper pieces from Homesense go a long way too. It doesn’t have to be fancy to feel special.
Her whole philosophy is decorating through fall, not just for it. A few genuine, thoughtful touches and your home just feels like home again. And the best part, none of this requires a big budget. Just a little intention.
