Every quarter, I pay city taxes for real estate, personal property, stormwater, and all the other glamorous parts of adulthood.

And somewhere along the way, I decided to turn an ordinary errand into a small ritual that helps me slow down and reset.

Now I park farther away, take the long walk to the treasurer’s office, and look for one peaceful corner of our city to appreciate before I leave.

Today I wandered into Judge Eileen A. Olds Courtyard Park at Chesapeake City Hall and just took in the intentional beauty of it for a few minutes.

Fresh air. Extra steps. Quiet moments. A slower pace.
Small changes help.

And sometimes the best parts of a city are the spaces you only notice when you finally slow down long enough to look.
