Just as I was celebrating a wonderful experience with my last buyers, I drove 40 minutes this evening to meet with a new prospective client, and it couldn’t have gone more differently.

As part of my job, I explained the new buyer agency agreement that’s required before showing homes. Instead of having a conversation about it, they became upset, accused me of having an attitude, and refused to sign anything. I remained professional, respectful, and simply did what I’m required to do, but I was treated as though I was trying to take advantage of them.

It was SO disheartening. An hour and a half of my time, energy, and travel ended with nothing to show for it. Moments like that can make you question yourself and leave you feeling defeated and want to cry.

But that’s real estate.

It’s a constant balance of highs and lows, wins and disappointments. For every difficult interaction, there’s a family that reminds me exactly why I do this. The right clients trust you, value your guidance, and allow you to be part of one of the biggest decisions of their lives.

So I’ll take the lesson, shake off the disappointment, and keep showing up. Because when I connect with the right people and help them find their way home, it’s one of the most rewarding feelings there is.

A Closing Story

Today was a special closing for an amazing family. The wife is a veteran, and together they spent a long time traveling and searching across the country for the perfect place to call home.

Originally from the Chesterton and Valparaiso area, they explored countless possibilities, searching for the right fit for their family and the life they wanted to build. In the end, much like salmon returning upstream, their journey led them back near home.

They found a beautiful property with acreage, perfect for creating the homestead they dreamed of, raising their children, and stepping away from some of the fast pace of the world to focus on what matters most.

Beyond helping them find a home, I have to say they were some of the most pleasant, kind, and genuine people I’ve had the privilege of working with. I was both surprised and honored when they told me they had spoken with 10 different agents before choosing me to help guide them through this journey. Their trust meant a great deal to me, and it made being part of this chapter in their lives even more meaningful.

Congratulations to this wonderful family on finding their way home. Wishing you many years of happiness, growth, and beautiful memories on your little piece of heaven.
