Tucked away on Pecan Drive yet visible just off Highway 70, Sew Happy Fabrics is one of Clayton's most delightful surprises. Step inside and you'll find room after room of vibrant fabric, patterns, notions, and inspiration, all thoughtfully curated by owners Samantha and her mother, Carol. You might spot Samantha's brother, Alex, at the register, and you'll likely meet Jamie, their first employee outside the family, whose warmth makes her feel like family too.
Touring the shop, I quickly realized there's an entire quilting and sewing world I never fully appreciated. It's been a hot minute since I've sat at my own machine, but spending time here, surrounded by all that creativity and community, made me want to dust it off again.
Sew Happy Fabrics recently served as a stop on the regional All Blue Ridge Shop Hop, connecting 103 fabric shops across NC, VA, and WV. Quilters travel store to store collecting stamps, taking classes, and reconnecting with friends along the way.
In their 16 years in business, Samantha and Carol have built more than a fabric store. Join Sit & Sew gatherings Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 a.m., the Guild meeting on the third Friday each month, or bring in your quilt top for their Longarm services.
Whether you're a lifelong seamstress or your machine's been gathering dust, you'll find something here worth discovering. One stitch at a time, right here in Clayton.
