I am going to put the spotlight on Clayton this time, we have many great places to see throughout the weekend if you live here or are just visiting, maybe testing the waters before a move. I want to show you some of my favorite places or things to do, placed to eat, drink, or visit. First, you have to start your day off with a kickstart so check out Boulevard West or White Rabbit for great coffee, then go to Burney’s Sweets & More of Clayton to satisfy your sweet tooth! Walk along downtown and check out the Main St Community Garden. Do some shopping along Main St at Tootsies Boutique, The Market at Three Little Birds, or one of my personal favorite stores Odd One Out. Ready for lunch? Get there early or be ready to wait at Jones Café for one of the best Hot Dogs around, the locals know. Nancy Jo’s Homemade also has hot dogs and ice cream. For something different go to Lil’ Hombre Smoked Taco Joint, you won’t regret it. Or make your way to Deep River, Johnston County’s first legal brewery, and try some of their great local beer and see what amazing food truck and/or music they have that day. As the day winds down check out Fare Game for an arcade style bar experience. First Street Tavern for a relaxing spot for entertainment, live music, good food and drinks to wind down or start your evening. For an out of this world dining experience for both brunch and dinner go to Aaktun Restaurant, Coffee & Tiki Bar. If having a quieter evening is more your style then check out LaDiDa Wine Bar and Bottle Shop for a more relaxed vibe. If craft cocktails are more your thing, then check out Revival 1869 or Elixir VI. Very laid-back spaces with unique drinks and atmospheres.
Maybe being downtown is not your cup of tea, well you’re in luck because Clayton has many parks to check out, miles of trails to walk, run, or bike. The Town of Clayton also does a great job in keeping up the parks and there are multiple parks with great play areas for kids and adults to check out, including a dog park for your furry friend if they need to burn some energy off! Enjoy the peace and tranquility of nature at Clemmons Education State Forest. Or throw some discs at Claytons 18-hole Disc Golf Course nestled in the woods, keeping you cool and shaded when it’s hot. Disc golf too hard? Well lucky you because Clayton has 4 golf courses within 10 minutes of downtown and close to a dozen within a 30-minute drive that I can personally say are fantastic!
Clayton is a great place to live with many of these places being in small area and many places I left out, I didn’t even get to the station or Flowers Plantation or any food trucks that you may see and think and need to stop at or my favorite place for the best tacos and tortas, but I will do another spotlight soon, so be looking out! So, if you live here and have never tried some of these places, give them a try. If you are visiting great, take these suggestions and try one or three (trying all of them may result in a stomach ache) and if there is something you want to know ask. If you are interested in moving to this wonderful area, drop me a line or reach out, I would love to talk to you about all the great opportunities this area has to offer. Maybe when you are walking along downtown you can stop in our office at 328 E Main St and grab my card. Enjoy the town and I look forward to hearing from you soon!
