Coconut Grove lost one of its original architects last week.

Kenneth Treister passed away at 96, and if you have ever walked through the Grove, you have seen his work even if you did not know his name.

He designed the Mayfair Hotel, Yacht Harbour, and buildings still standing all over the neighborhood. He is most known for the Holocaust Memorial on Miami Beach, a place every visitor to this city should see once.

What always stuck with me is how he took ideas from Gaudi and Frank Lloyd Wright and turned them into something that was entirely his own. You can still feel that walking around the Grove today.

I get asked about boat rides on this bay constantly. Fishing barely comes up, and it should.

Flats, reefs, or offshore drops for sailfish and tuna. Or just drop a line with the kids for a minnow. Every level works out here.

Barrier islands protect the bay enough that you can get out almost any day.

Most people think you need a boat to fish Biscayne Bay. Not true.

Half the spots in this guide are shore access only, from the bridges to the flats.

The bridges put you in twenty feet of water working tarpon. The flats put you in two feet working bonefish and permit. Same bay, completely different game depending on where you’re standing.

One of my favorite ways to spend a day on the water is snorkeling or diving Biscayne Bay 🤿

We've got spots where you're in ten to fifteen feet over a reef or a sandbar, and other spots where the water is so clear you can see the bottom from fifty feet up.

Head out toward Fowey Rocks and it only gets better. Wrecks off the coast, more down toward the Keys, all of it right in our backyard.

You don’t need a full gut renovation to make your kitchen show well.

Clean it up, put in the best appliances you can afford, clear out the clutter, fresh paint, updated lighting. Those small moves make a real difference without a massive spend.

Save the big budget for something that actually moves the needle.
