Hidden Gems of SC!
Check it out!
On August 29th you can ride the South Carolina BBQ Dinner Train for local food, railroad history, and scenic countryside views. The experience begins at the South Carolina Railroad Museum in Winnsboro, where guests board an open-air passenger car for a narrated ride along the Rockton, Rion and Western Railroad. During the five-mile trip to dinner, you can see open fields, the remains of sharecropper cabins, and historic buildings made from granite once hauled over this rail line. The train stops at a climate-controlled banquet hall, where guests sit at round tables and enjoy a buffet catered by Little Pigs BBQ. Dinner includes pulled pork with several sauces, fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, green beans, coleslaw, rolls, banana pudding, tea, lemonade, and water. After the meal, everyone climbs back aboard for the return ride, completing a 10-mile round trip lasting about two and a half hours. After August 29th, the only remaining dinner train dates for 2026 are September 12th and September 26th. Tickets are generally $45 per rider, and every guest needs a full-price ticket. Arrive at least 20 minutes early, dress for the weather, and use the restroom before boarding because there are no restrooms on the train. This is one of the best ways to experience the state of SC from the rails!
