Considering the Housing Choice Voucher program for your rental property? There are usually a few questions that come up first.

How does the payment process work?
CMHA pays its portion of the housing assistance directly to the landlord, while the resident is responsible for their portion.

What are the property requirements?
Before an initial move-in, the property must pass a physical inspection and meet applicable Housing Quality Standards.

Can I still screen tenants?
Yes. CMHA specifically encourages owners to conduct their own screening for suitability, including rental history and other lawful criteria.

There’s more to the process than simply accepting a voucher. Understanding the requirements, paperwork, inspections, and responsibilities can make navigating the program much easier.
