Columbus Development Update: A new plan has been unveiled to replace park space impacted by the future NWSL training facility in Southwest Columbus.

The proposal would create three recreation destinations, including approximately five acres of new amenities north of McCoy Park, a new nine-acre Green Leaf Park on Brown Road and an adaptive softball field at Berliner Sports Park.

The plan comes after community concerns surrounding the loss of recreational space at McCoy Park. The Southwest Park Working Group has unanimously supported the proposal, with design and construction preparations expected to begin in 2026.

As Columbus continues to grow and welcome new development, projects like this can have a direct impact on the parks, recreation opportunities and public spaces available to residents.
