Back from Montana and still thinking about it.⁣

Years ago, while we were both running up the chairs in our state Realtor® associations, a friend and I made a pact. When we were both on the other side of the obligations, we'd go. Just us, no agenda, nobody to please. Last week we made it happen.⁣
⁣
Here's what landed on me out on that mountain: the return on all those volunteer hours was never the title or the gavel. It was always about the people, in and out of service.⁣
⁣
I wrote this week's Bricks and Grit about the part of leadership that blindsides people, which is the vacuum that shows up when your term ends, and the harder truth that it starts showing up long before your term is over. ⁣

I've never forgotten finding an NAR president sitting alone on a bench in 2015 with months left on his gavel, already knowing. Four things to put on your calendar before that happens to you. ⁣

REALTORS® Give More Than People Ever See!

We are natural givers in this business, even if that's not always the story the public hears about us. Some of the most important things I've ever done for a client happened when nobody was watching. No post about it, no testimonial coming, and certainly no commission attached. You simply see somebody who needs help and say, "It's fine. I got you."

That's part of what makes this profession so deeply human. When we make room to take care of ourselves, we have more of ourselves available for the people who trust us.

👉 Rhode Island is adding a tax on certain second homes, and I have questions about the downstream effects.⁣
⁣

What happens to investment? What happens when an owner decides to take those dollars somewhere else? And what precedent are we setting for property owners?⁣

🔛 Because y’all know I’m always going to ask what happens after the policy goes into effect. This was only one piece of this week’s From the Rooftops. We also got into vacancy taxes, property rights, data centers and the rising costs that affect the people we serve.⁣
