**LUNCH TIME UPDATE**
Tuesday, Jan. 27th, 2026

**NICE TODAY**
We've risen nicely to near freezing under a cloudless sky!! This will certainly help clear most of the roads NOT COVERED in shade by trees. Some of the more rural roads will struggle until we rise above freezing for several days. I do not anticipate that happening (and I'm not hopeful for this) until the middle of next week when we'll see middle to upper 40s for highs.

**BIG DROP COMING AGAIN**
Another cold blast is expected to roar into our region Friday though Monday with lows each morning in the single digits. Highs on Saturday aren't even expected to rise out of the teens.

**MUCH BELOW NORMAL**
Normal high/low this time of year is 48/28. That would feel like Springtime at this point!

**NEXT SNOW**
We are watching a potential storm system this weekend, but odds of development affecting us are quite low for now.

🚧❄️ Road Conditions Update | City of Cookeville

Public Works crews are actively maintaining roadways through Saturday evening and night.

• Pretreatment with dry salt began Friday at 8 PM with 3 trucks covering main emergency routes
• Saturday at 6 AM, 5 plow/salt trucks and 1 pickup treated all three priority routes ahead of snowfall (9–10 AM)
• Crews refueled and reloaded, then began a second round of salting at 12:30 PM as snowfall increased
• Priority routes remain mostly clear; temperatures are still allowing salt to be effective
• TDOT is prioritizing I-40 and hospital routes, with city crews ready to assist if needed
• Public Works is coordinating closely with Police and Emergency Services to address hazardous areas

🚗 As conditions worsen this evening, motorists are strongly encouraged to stay off the roads to allow crews and emergency responders to keep routes open and safe for emergency access only.

Everyone please stay stafe and warm ❄️
