There are some people who need no introduction. Today, we honor one of Tennessee’s very best.

If you're from Tennessee, you don't get very far in life without knowing her name. Dolly Parton wasn't just a Tennessee icon — she was part of the heart of our state, an ambassador for our people, and for so many of us, a piece of home no matter how far we roamed.

👠A Trailblazer in Rhinestones👠

Dolly paved the way for women in country music long before the road was easy, and she never stopped reaching back to help others along the way. Her talent filled arenas, but her generosity filled lives. Her “cup of ambition” was never just about the charts — it was about dreaming big, staying true to who you are, and helping others do the same.

She gave us reasons to laugh and cry in equal measure, whether she was lighting up the screen in 9 to 5 or breaking our hearts — and mending them again — in Steel Magnolias.

And here in Tennessee, she gave us something we could walk through and experience together: Dollywood. For generations of Tennessee families, it has become part of our own memories and traditions.

But for all the songs, movies, awards, and rhinestones, what made Dolly Dolly was her heart.

She founded the Dollywood Foundation in 1988 with a mission centered around education and giving children opportunities to succeed. When wildfires devastated the Smoky Mountains, she helped her neighbors rebuild through the My People Fund. And through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, hundreds of millions of free books have found their way into the hands of children around the world.

Dolly didn't just give. She gave people reason to believe — in education, in second chances, in their communities, and in the idea that everybody deserves a little light in their life.

Tennessee — and the world — lost one of its brightest lights today.

Dolly Parton leaves behind a legacy almost impossible to measure. She showed us that you can be unapologetically yourself, wildly successful, endlessly kind, and still remember exactly where you came from.

Maybe the best way we can honor her isn't only with sadness today, but by carrying a little of what she gave us forward — showing kindness, helping our neighbors, believing in somebody, and leaving things a little better than we found them.
