I’m getting major “Golden Girls” vibes off today’s listing! It was built in 1980, and has been almost completely untouched since then. My favorite part is the kitchen, with it’s lime green counters, fabulous floral wallpaper, and vintage appliances. But a close second is the lanai (because of course this house has a lanai) that feels like something out of an old resort. Ugh, and the BATHROOMS…. If I have any impact on the world, let it be bringing back colorful bathroom fixtures. There is one, -tiny- catch… the home costs a shocking $9,900,000. At that price point, I can’t say I’m too optimistic about this home’s future… so let’s enjoy it now before it’s transformed into a tasteless greige box. Everything about this West Springfield, Massachusets home (currently on the market at $849,500)feels so specific and time-stamped to a specific moment in time (that time being the late 1980s) — the magic kitchen;the black lacquer built-ins; the brass accents; that giant soaking tub — It all feels very “rich kid” house. Would you preserve the 80s vibes of this house if you bought it?

This is one of the most unique homes currently on the marke. Today, we’re touring a 1970s time-capsule house in Duluth, Minnesota that somehow feels both futuristic and pre-historic at the same time. It has an organic, cave-like interior (most of which is covered in deep-purple, wall-to-wall carpeting) and comes with features like a sunken living area; basement party room; circular kitchen; colorful 1970s bathrooms; and more. About a year ago, I visited this historic, neo-gothic fixer-upper in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood, and it hasn’t left my consciousness since then. It needed work, but the potential was clear. The interior has been almost untouched since it was built in the 1890s, with a grand staircase; parquet floors; built-ins; rich, unpainted woodwork; a turn of the century bathroom; and more. Apparently it was once the home of former Chicago Mayor Harold Washington. It sold a few months after listing, and I have no idea in what state is it now. Here’s hoping it didn’t get the modern farmhouse treatment.

This stunning, 1970s time-capsule house in Cincinnati, Ohio just hit the market at $450,000. I still remember the first time I saw this listing, years ago. Being honest, I did not feel particularly optimistic about its future back then. I’ve seen sooo many cool old homes gutted and given the modern farmhouse treatment. But this home got a rare happy ending! The current owners spent years restoring the house to its former glory, and somehow managed to snake it even MORE 70s. Come tour this untouched, 1970s time-capsule house with me! It’s in Paw Paw, Michigan, on the market at $700,000, and the second I saw this place on Zillow, I KNEW I needed to see it in person. It was built in 1976, and has somehow managed to survive all these years with all of its fabulous/funky features in tact. There are so many fabulous features — an all-original kitchen with vintage appliances; one of the most stunning bathrooms ever featured on this page; carpeted walls; and much, much more — but my favorite part is that basement rumpus room, which is a masterpiece of 1970s interior design, and a reminder of just how much character and originality weve lost in modern homes, with wildly patterned s**g carpet, wood paneled walls, a bar, and even a billiards lounge. When I heard this place was owned by the people who ran the local bowling alley, I wasn’t in the least surprised. What’s your favorite part? And — just asking for my own edification — do you guys prefer “long” tours, or having them doled out in parts? I’m asking for a friend.

So… anybody want to move to upstate New York to run a mom and pop pizza place/mini golf course? This Oswego, New York diner — opened in 1950, and recently shuttered after seven decades of family ownership — just hit the market, and I could not be more obsessed with it — all the neon lights; that fabulous sign; the wood paneling; THAT BAR… just vintage perfection.
