October 8, 2025, TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) Program for Stray and Feral Cats in our Community.

The citizens of Defiance have spoken, and your City Council has responded to the desire to control the stray and feral cat population in our community.

The City of Defiance is partnering again with Fort Defiance Humane Society to hold the fourth TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) Program on October 8, 2025. TNR is a method for controlling the stray and feral cat population. The Rascal Unit is a mobile spay/neuter clinic from the Columbus area, assisting with this program. The unit has performed these spaying and neutering services for over 19 years.

The City of Defiance has approved funding to cover the costs of the traps, supplies, and procedures. The Fort Defiance Humane Society will provide the traps, along with training on how to set the traps.

However, we need your help in trapping and releasing the stray/feral cats so that they can be altered, vaccinated, and ear-tipped.

8:00 – 10:00 am: Pick up your trap/cat and return it to its original location for release
10:00 am – Noon: Return the empty trap to the garage of the 1918 Building ➡ Follow the signs

Good advice to check your tires psi before the cold hits

**Worst Cold In At Least 6 Years**

Please take this seriously! The last time we had an arctic blast that was comparable with both the high and low temperature, wind chill, and length of extreme cold combined was late January 2019.

Remember to check up on the elderly. If you have an older car battery that struggled in this last arctic outbreak, get it changed BEFORE the extreme cold hits. If you have outdoor pets, plan to bring them inside. If you have pipes that are vulnerable to freezing, keep those cabinet doors open. Make sure to let the faucets drip early next week. If your tires are low, add air now. The tire pressure will drop 3-5 PSI on average between Saturday morning and Tuesday morning. Frostbite can occur in less than 15 minutes to exposed skin with the wind chill between -20 to -30.
