A little Deltona history π

ππππ On September 29, the Mackle BrothersβElliott, Robert, and Frank Jr.βpurchased land in southeast Volusia with the intention of developing a residential community known as Deltona Lakes, which was later shortened to Deltona. The planning and development were carried out by the Mackle brothers and their company, General Development Corporation. Construction of model homes began on October 1, 1962, and the development opened to potential buyers on November 18 of the same year.
Initially, Deltona Lakes was a small subdivision, but by the end of the 20th century, Deltona had grown to become one of Central Floridaβs largest cities. The cityβs rapid growth can be attributed, in part, to its proximity to the interstate, as well as to the Mackle brothersβ international marketing campaign that promoted their homes as affordable and low-maintenance.
