With subfreezing temperatures expected to continue this week, we want to remind you that warming stations are available for those in need. At any point, no matter the temperature, several city facilities are open during their normal hours of operation to serve individuals needing relief from the weather. Anyone seeking overnight shelter should visit the Denton Community Shelter or Salvation Army Denton. A full list of these warming stations and hours, along with other helpful resources, can be found, here: www.cityofdenton.com/beready.

Stay warm & safe.

Almost through this cold snap. But not yet...
One more full day (and night) of sub-freezing temps.

The worst part of this forecast is this morning when temps are coldest and winds are strongest. Wind chills are below zero and gusts are 25 mph. We've been fortunate that the band of clouds overnight came through...and will exit just after sunrise. Once it exits? It's a sunny day. As high pressure builds in, winds will diminish later as well making for a very cold but more pleasant afternoon in the upper 20s.

With high pressure overnight and lighter winds, temps will dive quickly into the teens but steady out late as winds pick up from the south. Continue to DRIP FAUCETS.

While we start very cold tomorrow, it's a much quicker trip up on sunshine and stronger south winds. We'll finially hit freezing before noon (10:30-11am) and finish in the 40s. Not that we'd consider it warm especially with gusty winds, but it's definitely UP.

We actually remain above freezing through Thursday even as a cold front goes through. Temps should at least be closer to "average" that day thanks to mostly sunny skies after some morning clouds.

The end of the week and start of the weekend is pretty cold again. It's another ARCTIC air mass...just not as cold as this one. Oh, and it's likely the last one this month the way it looks. Remember those "Polar Vortex Warnings for Jan 25th" the internet issued a month ago? The end of January actually looks unseasonably MILD across the entire nation. LOL.

So about that chill. Friday will be windy and cold. We'll be back in the 30s even with sun and chills are back in the 20s.

The coldest night (wrap pipes, drip faucets) will certainly be Friday night-Sat AM although the afternoons should get above freezing.

By Sunday, south winds will return and increase ahead of a Pacific storm system. Clouds will thicken and even though it will be quite chilly, RAIN will start to develop at night. Rain is in the forecast early next week as well.

Please be prepare for the Artic front .

With the Arctic front moving through (DFW near freezing by sunset) you should have already covered plants, pipes, spigots and turned off sprinklers.
Please open cabinets and drip faucets tonight as temps will be in the teens by morning.
Don't forget to take care of PETS as well!
