Have you seen the blue pinwheels on and around the Denton square? April is Child Abuse Prevention Month 🌀 and each pinwheel represents a child impacted by abuse who had a voice thanks to CASA of Denton County.

CASA of Denton County served 642 children in 2025 with just 202 volunteer advocates. There are kids in our community waiting for someone to speak up for them, and that someone could be you.

Hoochies is back, and it got a full reset.

Hoochies Yacht Club is now open at the corner of Hickory and Industrial in Denton. Same location, completely new look, and a menu that keeps the favorites while adding some updates.

Inside, it leans all the way into the theme…yacht rock playing, Miami Vice and Love Boat on the TVs, and a laid-back, slightly retro feel that I love. It’s different from anything else in Denton right now.

They’ve also added a full bar, kept the outdoor seating, and made it a place where you want to stay a while😀

My go-to: the housemade gumbo with cornbread. Still one of the best things on the menu 🦐

As a born and raised Dentonite, I can tell you that Denton is NOT for everyone… and that’s exactly why people love it.

If you have to commute to Dallas every single day?
This might not be your spot.

But if you want:
✔️ More space
✔️ A slower pace (without being boring)
✔️ The option to get to Dallas when you need it

Denton hits different.

You’ve got the A-Train, quick access down to Carrollton, and from there you’re plugged into the whole DFW metro. So yeah… you can commute.

But most people moving here?
They’re not trying to live their life in traffic…just talk to my buyers from L.A.

They’re choosing:
☕ Local coffee shops over chains
🎶 Live music on the Square
🍦 Late nights at Beth Marie’s
🏡 Neighborhoods with character..and I know them ALL!

This is for the person who wants flexibility, not chaos.

The Flower Shop Coffee Co. is now open behind the gas station at Fort Worth Drive and Country Club Road in Denton TX.

Menu faves:

• Strawberry cream puff lattes

Creative. Fun. Actually good.

For over 40 years, Candy Haven has been THE place in Denton for cakes that actually matter.

🚧 Denton road construction: what actually improves in 2026 (and what doesn’t)

If it feels like Bonnie Brae has been under construction since the dawn of time… you’re not wrong.
But 2026 does bring some real progress across Denton and Denton County…sidewalks, widened roads, resurfacing, and a few long time coming finishes.

Here’s the quick version:
• McKinney Street sidewalk project is finally moving
• Bonnie Brae Phase 3 is expected to wrap
• East US 380 near Cross Roads should be done
• Some I-35E and Lewisville projects are still years out

❄️We might be going back to the future…aka 2021🥶, this weekend.

Make sure to take care of your:
👵🏼People
🐕Pets
🚰Pipes
🪴Plants

Seriously, check on your elderly neighbors and family. And don’t be an a$$ and leave your pets outside.

➡️Open the cabinet doors to your indoor faucets, flush your toilet throughout the day if on an exterior wall (ours almost froze in 2021), check on your refrigerator water line, drip faucets if necessary. Wrap your outdoor pipes and cover with a foam cap, And yes, your tankless water heater can freeze!! I see a lot of new homes where it’s located in the garage on an exterior wall. That’s a frozen pipe waiting to happen 🧊

➡️UPDATE: Patchouli Joe’s just got a second chance but it comes with a tight deadline.

📚 This well loved downtown Denton bookstore is trying to stay open, and to make that happen they need to raise $30,000. A GoFundMe has been set up and it’s linked directly in their bio.

If you’ve ever shopped there, attended a book club, gone to an author event, or simply believe Denton needs spaces like this then this is one of those put your money where your heart is moments.

Rising costs, slower foot traffic, higher book prices, and parking challenges may be forcing them to close. Now the community has an opportunity to step in and help keep an independent bookstore alive on the Square.

Denton small businesses don’t survive without support.
