So many people ask me what is the vibe in various river towns so I thought it would be fun to ask Chat GPT and throw in some thoughts of my own.

Do you and your friends got these descriptions?? … the Hudson friend who’s artsy, eco-conscious, and somehow always at the farmer’s market or discovering a new indie band. The one who just wants tacos, a good craft beer, and a walk by the river. The personality who’s a little more polished maybe into historic charm, jazz, and a perfect farm-to-table dinner.

Then there’s … the one who knows everyone and somehow always has the best plans. And , who keeps things a little mysterious but tells the best stories (and might own a leather jacket)and definitely has a picture with the Headless Horseman. Ardsley is the steady, family first type, the one you can always count on. While Croton-on-Hudson is off hiking, kayaking, or chasing a sunset somewhere.

Briarcliff Manor.. the put together, polished, maybe a little buttoned-up at first but genuinely warm once you’re in. Ossining is the one who brings everyone together and is full of culture, great food, and conversation. And Peekskill… bold, artistic, a little edgy, always ahead of the curve and knows where the live music is and brings the best lunch from Bennys Brown Bag.

Friday night we hit the town in Port Chester to check out . When we dine we prefer to try as many thing as possible so we often do several courses of appetizers, sometimes order a main dish and we don’t skip dessert.

First course:
Lamb Merguez
Tuna Tartare

Both were delicious the lab sausage with the green tahini sauce were equally smoky and rich. The tartare was fresh and fruity- great palate cleanse

Second course:
Little Mezze bowls with grilled bread
Aegean Greek Salad- needed some veggies

I could eat the mezze bowls every day! The dips span from tangy labneh to hummus to savory eggplant caponata. There was one dip I could bathe in!!! We requested extra grilled bread to lap of every last drop!

Third course:
Grilled octopus
Moroccan Ci**rs

Truthfully this octopus was one of the best I ever had! One of the people in our party is Greek and he overwhelmingly approved😊 I was so full by the time this course came out that I only had a bite of the ci**rs- while I’m not a lamb fan per se it was very enjoyable.

Dessert course:
Kataifi.. wow, just wow.. the shredded phyllo with honey and the thick yummy custard topped with date syrup was a pleasant way to end the night.

This was a surprise treat! I definitely recommend going for a date night or night with friends. The food, atmosphere and the owner are all top notch!

Did you know that you can make more than just bread with sourdough?? A few examples of recent recipes I've used my sourdough starter for (and yes I included a bread pic bedsheets was so pretty). Cinnamon rolls are definitely a family favorite, fresh pasta, biscuits.. we've done homemade tortillas, desserts etc. The health benefits are amazing and the best part is I don't get bloated from eating it🤪
