Freedom didn’t arrive all at once! It was carried forward by visionaries who dared to see beyond the limits placed before them. Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, the day enslaved people in Texas finally learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It stands as both a celebration of liberation and a reminder of the ongoing pursuit of equity and justice.
This Juneteenth, we honor that legacy through the lens of Gordon Parks, who captured the truth of Black life with power and dignity, and Katherine Johnson, whose brilliance helped launch humanity into space. Their stories remind us: progress is built by courage, creativity, and an unwavering belief in what’s possible.
