Here’s the simple version of what Dr. Lawrence Yun is saying:

Mortgage rates have risen from around 6% in late February to 7% today, largely because of inflation, higher oil prices, and continued federal borrowing. While rates could eventually come back down, the outlook remains uncertain.

For now, buyers should prepare for 7% mortgage rates to be the new normal. The good news? Continued job growth can still support homeownership and keep buyers moving forward.
