Moving during the holidays isn’t the ideal time to plan a move but sometimes you have no choice. Instead of becoming a Grinch this holiday season, follow these tips to make your move go more smoothly and stress-free while still enjoying “the most wonderful time of the year”.
>>>> Start Packing as Early as Possible:
The sooner you can start packing before the holidays, the less stressed you will be when it comes time to move. Being prepared by packing what you can ahead of time means you can enjoy more of the holidays with your loved ones without worrying about how much you still have left to do.
If you’re moving before Christmas Day, then make sure your holiday decorations are packed last for easy access so you can decorate your new home without having to search through a myriad of moving boxes.
>>>> ‘Tis The Season for Giving:
The holidays are an especially important time to donate items you no longer use or need. The colder weather can be rough for those who have limited resources or need items they may not have access to. Instead of packing and moving your canned goods and boxed foods, consider donating them to a local food pantry.
Clothing that is in good condition that you no longer wear is also a needed item to donate during the holidays. Things like coats, hats, gloves, and shoes can help keep others warm during the brutal winter months. By donating some of these things, you save time packing and unpacking, your load will be lighter, and you’re also helping someone in need.
>>>> Use The K.I.S.S. Method:
( or Should We Say “Keep It Simple Santa” )
There’s no better time than before a holiday move to scale back your decorations and parties. Ask your family what their favorite holiday traditions and decorations are and then plan accordingly.
You can also reduce the number of holiday parties you host or attend. Delegate the holiday feast to another family member or better yet just make a reservation at your favorite restaurant (you’ll be helping out your local restaurant as well!).
>>>> Combine Your Holiday Cards and Your Change of Address Cards:
Let your holiday cards do double duty by adding your new address along with your holiday wishes! You’ll be able to kill two birds (or turtle doves) with one stone. You never want to lose touch with those who are important in your life and even though it’s easier to keep in touch through social media, sometimes a good old-fashioned card in the mail is a nice way to put a smile on a friend's face.
>>>> Give Yourself the Gift of Eric Moves Everything:
Don’t let your holiday move turn you into a Scrooge! Not only will professional moving companies load and unload the moving truck, some professional moving companies will do the packing and unpacking for you as well. By giving yourself the gift of a professional moving company, you can receive the joy of a less stressful holiday allowing you to focus on the season with your family and friends.
The holidays can be a wonderful time of year! If you have to move during this time, just follow these suggestions, take a deep breath, and you and your family can enjoy the Ho-Ho-Ho of the holidays!
