We’ve always hoped Kismet would feel like more than simply a place to stay—that guests would slow down, notice the little things, make memories and leave feeling somehow part of its story.

Something new is waiting at Kismet… 👀🌲

Over the years, our little cabin in the woods has collected a few stories, a few characters…and more than a few things you might completely miss if you aren’t paying attention.

So we decided to make a game of it.

Introducing the Kismet Curiosity Hunt. ❤️

Grab a clipboard. Follow the clues. Look a little closer.

You might meet one of Kismet’s oldest residents. Find a very lost tourist. Discover a tiny bandit. Or stumble upon a millipede who has somehow managed to become a North Georgia homeowner. 😂

And yes…cheating is allowed. The Kismet Companion knows things.

Because around here, good things hide in plain sight.

This is why we love sharing Kismet. ❤️

This week, one little family came to the mountains for their first vacation with their 2½-year-old.

They soaked in the hot tub, spotted deer wandering through the property, explored the cabin—and before they left, they added their own little chapter to our Guest Stories book.

Zara wrote that Kismet was “a magical first” for their little guy and that they hope to come back someday.

We hope they do. 🥰

Because reservations eventually become names.
Names become stories.
And somehow, this little cabin in the woods keeps collecting them.

Kismet rewards the curious. 🔎🌲

We’ve always believed some of the best things about Kismet aren’t the things you can put on an amenities list.

They’re the funny little details you notice when you slow down. The stories hiding in unexpected places. The neighbors you meet. The things that make you stop and say, “Wait…what is THAT?” 😂

So this week, something new moved into the cabin:

The Kismet Curiosity Hunt. ❤️

It’s part scavenger hunt, part wandering adventure, and part excuse to look a little closer at the place around you.

There are clues to solve, tiny things to discover, a little officially sanctioned cheating 🤫, and even one challenge that asks you to accomplish perhaps the hardest task of all:

Do absolutely nothing for five whole minutes.

It’s not just for kids, either. Curious children, playful grownups, competitive spouses and anyone who still enjoys finding a little magic in unexpected places are welcome.

We won't tell you what you're looking for.

You'll have to come find it. 😉🔎

There’s a moment every year when the mountains begin to change their mind. 🍁

The mornings get a little cooler. The woods start trading green for gold and red. The fire pit suddenly sounds like an excellent idea again, and slipping into a hot tub under the trees feels less like an amenity and more like a very good life decision. ❤️

Fall is getting ready to arrive at Kismet.

And honestly? It may be our favorite version of her.

Come rock on the porch. Wander around Ellijay. Build a fire. Watch the leaves change. Do absolutely nothing for a while.

Every stay leaves a story. ❤️

That's the thought behind our new Kismet Guest Stories book.

Over the years, Russ and I have heard little pieces of those stories.

Anniversaries celebrated. Birthdays surprised. First trips away together. Long-overdue weekends with friends. Quiet mornings on the deck. Deer appearing at just the right moment. Someone discovering that the hot tub is considerably harder to leave when it's 40 degrees outside. 😂

And sometimes the story is simply...

“We did absolutely nothing, and it was wonderful.”

We realized one day that while we've been busy telling the stories of Kismet, our guests have been creating stories here all along.

So now there's a place for them. 🥰

A book sitting at a little desk, filled with blank pages waiting for whatever someone feels like leaving behind. No prompts. No rules. Just...

We have absolutely no idea what will eventually fill those pages.

And honestly, that's our favorite part. ❤️

Meet Chubby. 🐿️❤️

When we first came to Kismet, we assumed the squirrels living in the woods were probably very busy doing squirrel things.

Gathering food. Building nests. Preparing for winter.

You know...squirrel responsibilities.

Then we met Chubby.

Chubby has never appeared particularly burdened by the Protestant work ethic. 😂

His preferred activity is stretching himself belly-down across a tree branch, legs dangling on either side, looking for all the world like a squirrel who clocked out sometime around 2019 and has absolutely no intention of returning.

And honestly?

We respect it.

Somewhere along the way, he stopped being a squirrel and became Chubby—one of the many little characters who helped turn the woods around Kismet from scenery into a neighborhood.

He even earned himself a place in The Kismet Companion, because apparently you don't have to accomplish much to become part of Kismet history.

Sometimes you just have to show up regularly and be exceptionally good at lying down. 🤣❤️

So we're curious: Are you Team Chubby...or are you physically incapable of sitting still when there's something you could be doing?

Well...she officially went to work. ❤️📚

After months of writing, laughing, remembering, editing, changing our minds, changing them back 😂, and eventually holding the finished book in our hands, The Kismet Companion finally made her way to the coffee table at Kismet.

And then we waited.

Would anyone actually pick her up?

Turns out, yes. 🥹

Our very first guests to stay with the finished Companion at the cabin told us they loved the stories. As they were leaving, they even came back to take a picture of the Kismet sign out front—and when talking about the stories, Alisa used two words that absolutely made our day:

“So sweet!” ❤️

And really, that's exactly what we hoped this little book would be.

It's the story of how the woods around Kismet slowly stopped being scenery. The deer became neighbors. The trees developed personalities. A squirrel named Chubby perfected the art of doing absolutely nothing. And yes, somehow even a millipede named Marvin earned himself a chapter. 😂

None of it was created to make Kismet seem like something it isn't.

It's simply the story of what this place became to us.

And now our guests get to discover those stories while they're here—and maybe see the woods around them just a little differently afterward.

Hearing that our very first readers enjoyed them?

That was pretty darn sweet too. 🥰

The best kind of goodbye is, “We’ll be back.” ❤️

There’s something especially lovely about hearing that from guests as they’re leaving Kismet.

Tom & Kimberly recently spent a couple of nights with us, and before they had even made it home, they were already talking about coming back for a longer stay. Then this sweet 5-star review arrived. 🥰

Russ and I never take it for granted that someone chooses our little cabin for the precious days they get to step away from everyday life. We want Kismet to feel warm when you walk through the door, peaceful while you’re here, and just a little hard to leave when it’s time to go home.

So when someone leaves saying “next time…”

Well, that might be one of our favorite compliments of all. ❤️
