Students from elementary, middle, and high school have designed original round stickers inspired by Chocolate Chipped Bakery 🍫

The winning designs will be professionally printed and featured on our bakery boxes, bags, and marketing materials all around our store! The grand prize winners will win a COOKIE PARTY 🎉 for their entire class ☺️

Drumroll, please: curbside food scrap recycling is coming to Farmington!

When yard waste pickup resumes in April, Farmington residents will be able to include food scraps for compost, too — at no additional cost to residents or the City.

Food waste is the most common item sent to landfills in Michigan, but it doesn’t have to be. Through our food scrap drop-off program at Riley Park and Farmington Farmers & Artisans Market, Farmington diverted more than 19,000 pounds of food waste from the landfill in just 4 months. Due to its success, Waste Management is expanding this service to curbside collection.

From April-December, food scraps can be placed in paper yard waste bags or rigid containers and set out with yard waste on garbage day. You can pre-bag it in biodegradable plastic bags, or even mix it with yard waste. Materials will be composted at the Spurt facility in Wixom.

Here’s the official list of items acceptable to compost:
-Coffee and coffee filters
-Fruits and vegetables
-Beans
-Napkins and paper towels that are free of cleaning products
-Grease
-Breads and grains
-Eggshells
-Dairy products
-Meats and bones

A couple quick notes:
-No regular plastic bags
-No twist ties or rubber bands
-The drop-off carts at the Pavilion will remain in place.

Council unanimously approved the updated MOU with Waste Management at Monday night’s meeting, and then I went home and shopped for a lidded compost container (plus some biodegradable liners) to put under my kitchen sink. City of Farmington, Michigan will be posting and sending out more information about this new program shortly. In the meantime, tell your neighbors!

Represent! All of the USA men’s hockey players on the ice during the golden goal have Michigan ties.

Jack Hughes, who scored the final goal, attended Plymouth-Canton Educational Park while playing for the U.S. National Team Development Program (USNTDP) in Plymouth Township.

Connor Hellebuyck was born in Commerce and attended Walled Lake Northern High School. He was the star of the game, making 40 saves.

Zach Werenski is from Grosse Pointe Woods and played with the Detroit Belle Tire minor ice hockey team. He gave the golden goal assist.

Dylan Larkin plays with the Detroit Red Wings, attended the University of Michigan and is from Waterford. Larkin had scored a goal in each of the previous two games.

Congratulations to Farmington Hills' own Megan Keller and Team USA, bringing home the gold in Women's Hockey after her medal-winning goal in overtime!

She grew up skating at the Farmington Hills Ice Arena and is now a two-time Olympics gold medalist.
