We make thriving destinations that are fun to live in and fun to visit. Last week, we shared the award news. This week, the deeper story. Grateful to see The 1907 Block featured in Congress for the New Urbanism's 'Public Square' journal, and thanks to editor Robert Steuteville for thoughtfully highlighting the broader impact of this project!

The 1907 Block in Rogers, Arkansas, catalyzed the redevelopment of downtown and established the city as a culinary hub. High Street Real Estate & Development won a 2026 CNU Charter Award in The Block, Street, and Building category.

High Street is thrilled to share that The 1907 Block in Downtown Rogers has received a 2026 Charter Award from the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) — a national recognition honoring exemplary walkable, mixed-use, and community-centered development.

The 1907 Block brings together the restored 1907 Building and the adjacent Ritter & Spool apartments, forming a cohesive district rooted in history, designed for continued growth, and serving as a catalyst for the reemergence of Downtown Rogers.

The 1907 Building is home to ONYX Coffee Lab, Heirloom at The 1907, and Yeyo's Mezcaleria y Taqueria — all James Beard Award finalists over recent years — and we’re grateful for the role they’ve played in shaping this place. We’re also proud of our team, collaborators, and the Rogers community who helped bring this vision to life.

With CNU’s 34th annual gathering coming to Northwest Arkansas this May, it’s an especially exciting moment to see this work recognized on a national stage, right here at home. Thank you to the CNU for this recognition, and congratulations to this year’s fellow award recipients.

Next Tuesday, March 10 at 12pm ET, join us for our next On the Park Bench webinar: “A High-Growth Region Works to Pivot Development to New Urbanism.” Developers Ward Davis and Duke McLarty and municipal planner John McCurdy will discuss efforts by rapidly growing Northwest Arkansas to shift away from sprawl toward walkable, mixed-use development.

As always, this webinar is available for 1 AICP continuing education credit if viewed live as well as 1 CNU-A continuing education credit if viewed live or recorded.

As longtime participants in the Congress for New Urbanism, we’re looking forward to welcoming to NWA this May. The recently announced keynote speakers offer two more excellent reasons to attend, as Harvard economist Raj Chetty and NYU sociologist Eric Klinenberg bring national perspective to timely conversations about economic mobility, social infrastructure, and the future of thriving communities.

The future of community development demands clarity of vision – and the discipline to deliver it.

We’re excited to announce two strategic additions to the High Street team:

Mike Hathorne, Director of Pre-Development
An urban planner, author, and educator with a Master’s degree in Environmental and Urban Planning from Arizona State University, Mike specializes in community design, land use policy, and housing market trends shaped by demographic change. He aligns design intent, market realities, and entitlement strategy – ensuring thoughtful, walkable, mixed-use communities are not only inspiring, but financeable, buildable, and positioned for long-term success.

Anthony Catania, Director of Design
A licensed architect and urban designer with a Master of Architecture from the University of Notre Dame, Anthony brings a deep respect for historic precedent and traditional building types, as well as a commitment to the design of urban environments that are walkable, vibrant, and economically productive. His work reinforces identity, character, and design principles that produce authentic and lasting places.

We believe community building is more than development – it’s about shaping environments where people can connect and belong, and where businesses can grow and thrive.

Mike and Anthony strengthen that mission in meaningful ways. Welcome to the High Street team!

We’re excited to share that High Street is featured on the cover of the latest edition of Springdale City Lifestyle (also featured in Fayetteville City Lifestyle) — the story offers a thoughtful look into the vision, values, and momentum behind Johnson Square and The Warehouse District.

Creating meaningful communities is a pillar of our work at High Street, and these projects have always been about more than buildings. From walkable design and intentional development to the locally loved restaurants that give the district its energy, this feature captures what has always mattered most to us: creating places that feel alive, connected and authentic, where people and businesses truly thrive.

Grateful for the spotlight, and excited for what’s ahead!

Congratulations to not one, but two of our partner tenants at The 1907 Building in Rogers on being named 2026 James Beard Award semifinalists! 👏 Jason Paul, chef of Heirloom at The 1907, is a semifinalist for "Best Chef – South," while ONYX Coffee Lab has earned a semifinalist nod for "Outstanding Bar – Nationwide." Widely regarded as the pinnacle of culinary recognition in the U.S., the James Beard Awards celebrate the very best in American food and hospitality.

Add in last year’s nomination of Rafael Rios of Yeyo's Mezcaleria y Taqueria, and that makes *three* 1907 Building partners recognized on the national culinary stage – an extraordinary concentration of talent under one historic roof in Downtown Rogers. No wonder you can feel the energy the moment you arrive. Congratulations again to this year’s semifinalists!
