Florida voters will decide this November on a proposed change to the homestead exemption. A proposed constitutional amendment would increase Florida’s homestead exemption if it receives at least 60% of the vote in November.

If approved, the exemption would increase to:

✨ $150,000 in 2027 for most Florida homeowners
✨ Up to $250,000 in 2028
✨ With the exemption continuing to increase with inflation

The amendment would also introduce a lower cap on assessment increases for certain non-homesteaded properties. One important provision would affect people moving to Florida after 2026: the higher exemption would be phased in after five years of residency, subject to constitutional limitations.

What could this mean for real estate?

✨ For homeowners, a larger homestead exemption could reduce the portion of a primary residence’s assessed value subject to property taxes, potentially lowering annual tax bills.

✨ For buyers, the potential tax savings could become another factor when evaluating the overall cost of homeownership in Florida.

✨ For sellers, a change in property taxes could influence how buyers evaluate affordability and the carrying costs associated with a home.

🎙 What inspired you to transition from a career in dance and entertainment into real estate?

Between my dance career and real estate, I had a break between when I got married and had a child. I was living in Brooklyn, NY. Being in real estate was the obvious thing for me since my family had an extensive background in real estate investment, and I’ve always known about it. It was just the easiest transition for me. I also remembered the feeling of looking for a home and finding my first home. Once I closed my first deal as an agent here in Florida, I was hooked.

🎙 How has your Haitian heritage shaped who you are and the way you serve your clients and community?

Growing up as a first-generation Haitian American in this country gave me a huge advantage: I spoke different languages and could communicate. When I went to school, I learned about this country, and at home, I had another heritage and country I was still learning as well. It’s a beautiful part of my life that helps me see people in a different light. It’s not just one. You can experience multiple cultures to be able to have empathy with other cultures, as I’m here in South Florida. That’s what makes me a little unique: I can see people from different cultures and better understand them.

🎙 After more than a decade in real estate, what continues to motivate and inspire you?

The satisfaction and joy at the closing table when the people I have served have either bought or sold the most expensive item of their life and I was the conduit for it.
