In loving memory of Cecily Helms…

In the late 90’s, I met a lady named Cecily Helms. She was a character. We called her mawmaw and Rocket! Mostly because she would say… “Now… I know I’m not a rocket scientist…” 🤣 She would say that when she caught a stupid mistake that someone else had made. She was smart as a whip and took no nonsense from anyone. She loved her family and was a fierce friend.

Anyway… she had this habit of letting her adding machine tape run out into the floor. So one day she showed me this gorgeous wreath with a fantastic bow. I asked her where she had gotten it and that’s when she told me she had made it. Cecily then proceeded to show me how to make bows out of adding machine tape. We secured them with a paper clip. Had them all over the office.

Her birthday was this past week. December 14th. Every time I make a bow… I think of her… I smile… Then I hear her say… “Now… I know I’m not a rocket scientist…”

If I’ve ever made a bow for you, it was because of her. I just made this one because I have hidden my tree topper from myself. I thought of her and thanked God for her. She taught me so much. Made my eyes a little misty.

Thank you, Rocket. 🚀 I miss you this time of year.
