After 48 years, Gator Lanes in south Fort Myers just sold. Here’s what’s replacing it.

Kevin Walsh’s family opened the bowling alley on Crystal Drive back in 1978, he was 15 years old helping build it, later bartended there, and eventually bought out the original 10 owners. Last month he sold the 28,000-square-foot building for $3.1 million to Michelle and Jeremy Kuntze, owners of Fort Myers Theatre, who are turning it into Fort Myers Dinner Theatre.

The plan: a 150-seat youth theater, a 200-seat second stage, a working kitchen by September, and most of the original bowling lanes staying intact. Bowling, live theater, and dinner, all under one roof.

It’s a small deal on paper. But it’s also the kind of story that shows what’s happening across south Fort Myers right now. Long-standing local businesses changing hands and reinventing themselves rather than closing for good.
