🚨 LEE COUNTY RESIDENTS: YOUR COMMUNITY PLAN MAY BE CHANGING

Tomorrow morning, the Lee County Local Planning Agency will consider CPA2026-00005 a major rewrite of portions of the Lee Plan that affects community-specific planning provisions across unincorporated Lee County.

This includes:

Bayshore • Boca Grande • Buckingham • Caloosahatchee Shores • Olga • Captiva • Greater Pine Island • Lehigh Acres • North Captiva • Northeast Lee • Alva • North Olga • North Fort Myers • Page Park • San Carlos Island • Southeast Lee • Tice

To be clear: Lee County says this amendment does NOT itself rezone property or increase current allowable density or intensity.

So what is the concern?

These communities spent years developing plans addressing the things that make each area different: rural character, agriculture, evacuation, road capacity, infrastructure, water resources, wetlands, wildlife habitat, coastal vulnerability and compatible development.

The question is simple:

❓ If a community-specific protection is deleted, rewritten or moved, WHERE does it go and does the replacement provide the SAME protection?

Pine Island is not Lehigh Acres.
Alva is not North Fort Myers.
Captiva is not Tice.
Buckingham is not an urban growth corridor.

One-size-fits-all planning does not necessarily work for communities with very different infrastructure and environmental limitations.

There is also a serious public-process question.

The County held its public information meeting on August 25. The LPA hearing is August 31...... only SIX DAYS later.

For a rewrite of this magnitude, residents deserve enough time to understand exactly what is being retained, relocated, rewritten or eliminated.

This isn't about being “anti-growth.”

It is about RESPONSIBLE GROWTH.

✔ Infrastructure keeping pace with development
✔ Protecting our water resources
✔ Preserving wetlands and wildlife corridors
✔ Protecting agricultural and rural lands
✔ Accounting for evacuation and roadway capacity
✔ Making sure today's decisions don't create tomorrow's infrastructure problems

WHAT SHOULD WE ASK FOR?

Before CPA2026-00005 moves forward, ask Lee County to provide a community-by-community, policy-by-policy comparison showing:

→ What stays
→ What moves
→ What changes
→ What disappears
→ What replaces it
→ Whether the replacement provides the same protection
