Hi friends! It's been a minute since I've popped up in your feed; we've been heads down getting into the swing of high school and finding our new family routine. Turns out that takes a little longer than expected, but we're getting there!

Anyway, I'm back with your Weekender guide for August 7th-9th. It's a hot one out there (shocking, I know), but there's still plenty going on if you're willing to brave the heat or stick to the shade.

First Friday at PhxArt kicks things off tonight, John Mellencamp brings the Dancing Words Tour to Talking Stick Sunday, and the Diamondbacks have a full weekend against the Dodgers if you're looking for some AC and good baseball. Happy Hump Day!! Can you believe it's already Wednesday?!

Here's what's on the calendar for July 31st through August 2nd.

Weather-wise, we're looking at highs around 113-115 all weekend, mostly sunny with just a small chance of rain Sunday. Typical late July, in other words.

💃 World Hip Hop Dance Championship - preliminaries and semifinals Friday at Arizona Grand Resort, finals Saturday at Mullett Arena in Tempe

💕 We Found Love, Saturday 8/1, 9pm-1am at Club Contact in Phoenix

🌴 Jungle Rhythms, Saturday 8/1, 10am-3:30pm at Mountain Shadows in Paradise Valley

🦒 Wildlife World Zoo, Sunday 8/2, 10:30-11:30am at The Wigwam in Litchfield Park

Happy almost-weekend, East Valley! 🌵

Here's what's happening July 17-19 so you can plan ahead before the week gets away from you.

This Weekend's Highlights:

🎵 An Encore Tribute to 70's Soul at Hale Centre Theatre in Gilbert, Friday and Saturday. Times vary, so check before you go.

🏡 Maricopa County Home & Landscape Show at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, all weekend, 10AM - 5PM. Great if you've got home projects on the brain.

🕵️ The Dinner Detective Murder Mystery Dinner Show at Embassy Suites in Tempe on Saturday, 6-8:30PM. If you've never been to one of these, they're so much fun.

🥕 Downtown Phoenix Farmers Market, Saturday morning 7:30 - 11:30AM. Perfect early errand before the heat really kicks in.

⚽ FIFA World Cup 2026 is ON this weekend. France vs England Saturday at 2PM, Spain vs Argentina Sunday at noon. Huge matchups if you want an excuse to watch with people.

Quick weather note:
Friday morning is looking stormy with a 40% chance of rain, so plan outdoor activities accordingly. Saturday and Sunday are partly cloudy and swear they will be better behaved.

Oh, and Netflix dropped a solid batch this week too.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 3 if that's your thing.
Heartstopper Forever if you've got teens in the house.
Something for everyone.

Okay, full transparency? This was supposed to go up yesterday. Better late than never, right?

Here's what's on tap for July 10th-12th around the Valley:

Tonight you can still catch Joji: Solaris at the Mortgage Matchup Center (6:30PM) or Kurt Vile & The Violators at The Van Buren (8PM). The Summer Dive-In Movies are running tonight AND tomorrow at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess starting at 8PM. Chef's kiss for a Saturday night.

Saturday also brings Winter in July at the Phoenix Zoo (7-11AM) if you want to beat the heat early, and the FIFA World Cup is on all weekend with some big matchups. D-backs fans, the boys are playing the Dodgers all three days, so take your pick.

And if the 112-degree forecast has you firmly committed to the couch? Netflix just dropped a solid lineup including Little House on the Prairie (nostalgia hit!) and a few new international titles worth checking out.

Stay cool out there, friends. It's a scorcher, but the Valley always finds a way to have fun anyway. 🌵☀️

This year is America's 250th birthday, and the Valley is celebrating in a BIG way. 🎆🇺🇸

Whether you're staying in the East Valley or venturing out West... there are so many great options this weekend to watch the sky light up.

I rounded up events from Gilbert to Fountain Hills to Tempe to Buckeye so you can find something close to home (or make an adventure of it).

My family and I are going to hop on our scooters this year and head over to Gilbert Regional Park for the fireworks show because we live that close now! 😄 June wore us all out, and I cannot wait to just slow down and enjoy the weekend together. 💙
