❄️ **Winter Weather Safety Reminder** ❄️
As cold temperatures continue, we encourage everyone to take a few simple steps to stay safe. Please have a plan to stay warm. Make sure your emergency plan and disaster kit are ready before **Friday night**. Visit **ReadyNC.gov** for preparedness tips.

⚠️ **Ice Safety:** Some ponds and waterways may appear frozen, but the ice is **thin and dangerous**. Please talk with children about staying off the ice—it cannot support people or pets.

🛒 **Be Prepared:** Stock up on food and water for several days, as road conditions may remain poor due to prolonged cold.

🚗 **If You Must Travel:**
• Slow down and leave extra space between vehicles
• Turn off cruise control
• Watch for icy patches, especially on bridges and shaded areas
• Avoid sudden braking and steer gently if you begin to slide

🥶 **Cold Weather Health:**
Limit exposure to extreme cold and watch for signs of hypothermia and frostbite. Stay dry, cover exposed skin, and warm up immediately if symptoms appear.

We expect major impacts to our roads this weekend and into next week due to the expected cold temperatures. The safest choice is to stay home if possible!

The City of Goldsboro Public Works Department is adjusting some recycling and garbage routes to improve service efficiency. The changes will affect approximately 2,500 homes. Residents affected by these changes have been notified directly. The new routes will take effect January 5.

The 2026 solid waste calendars and new routes map are available online at https://www.goldsboronc.gov/public-works/sanitation-public-works/.
